Oh noes..could I be a registered Republican? |
|
Several months after relocating to Atlanta, I FINALLY got my driver's license today (I don't know why they make it so difficult to transfer licenses here--they clearly don't give a crap about the WAY people drive). So, the notary public asks me if I want to register to vote at the same time...I say OK, hey seems convenient.
Afterward I thought about it, and realized that they hadn't asked me to fill out a form, sign anything, etc., to register. Nothing. No party box to check off. Does that seem strange? And, from what I've seen of the political atmosphere around here, it doesn't seem entirely implausible that they would just register all new registrants as Republicans.
Can anyone clarify the situation for me? I'd hate to think that I stood in line for 2+ hours so I could join the GOP.

2. Maybe you don't have to register a party affiliation there? |
|
You don't have to do that in Texas, either.

I did note that they had a box on teh form to get your DL that asks you to indicate which race you are. Considered filling in "H" for Human, but then didn't know if "H" is an abbreviation for "Hispanic"--which would have been funny, because I'm practically an albino.
In the end, I left that box blank.

6. Pretty sure "H" is an abbreviation for Hispanic |

I like the idea of filling it in as "Human," though. :D

Holy Cripes, I've never seen a group of people who a) drive so recklessly and B) are so seemingly proud about it. Glad I left L.A. for this. (sarcasm)

Providing a link for your information for voter registration application in Georgia - no party affiliation info is included at all. We can all vote in each other's primaries at any time for any election - in fact this keeps lots of races very confusing because of cross-over voting. http://www.sos.state.ga.us/elections/voter_registration/vra_2003_update.pdfDon't worry - you haven't joined the GOP - and, Welcome to Georgia! :hi:

8. thanks for the welcome, and the clarification! |

I didn't even think about it until I was back here and reading the thread about people switching their registrations from Repub to Dem. I was like, "Hmm..I registered today, AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN ASK ME WHICH PARTY I WANTED TO BE AFFILIATED WITH! DAMN YOU, PERDUE!"
