With all of the talk of Joementum lately, I thought you guys would like a blast from the past.
Jello Biafra's address to a 2000 state Green Party Convention

Before you go off about Jello supporting Nader, he endorsed Kerry in 2004.

For those of you that don't know him, Jello Biafara was the lead singer of the 80s punk band The Dead Kennedys. In the 80s, Tipper Gore fought to have the DKs banned and censored. This speech is about how Joe Lieberman is essentially Tipper on crack.

3. It wasn't really intended as an anti-Tipper post, it's more anti-Joe
But you have to understand why Jello hates Tipper. She tried to end his career for political reasons.

7. Respectfully,...
I think that Jello Biafra is the one "against" Tipper, not necessarily the OP. Also, Jello has consistently pointed out how he didn't agree with Tipper's promotion of the PRMC, which Jello argued was an attack on free speech rights. I don't recall Jello attacking Tipper's other political views.

I submit that it is possible to disagree with part of a person's views or politics without being against the person completely.

13. Tipper Gore wanted some labels warning parents...it didn't stop kids
from buying it...it was a "guidline" but the RW Porn industry and some "misguided folks who are Libertarians" from going against her and mischaracterizing what she said.

It was the Mellon/Scaife gang enforce before they went after Hillary...when they were just "testing the waters" and managed to get all the folks against Tipper who thought they wouldn't be able to listen to their "MUSIC" anymore because the Feds would be onto them.

Turns out we have the "Emperor-in-Thief" in charge of our Gov today...and all Tipper was doing was pointing out that some lyrics were offensive. I still agree with her today....and I'm a WAY LEFTY DU'er. But on this subject I was, and still am, with Tipper.

15. Personally, I don't necessarily disagree with your views about this
My post was my attempt to distinguish between Jello Biafra's stated attitude toward Tipper's PRMC stance, the OP's views (he/she did not specify), and Jello's attitude towards Tipper's non-PRMC-related views (I'm not aware of any kind of statement he has made about this). In my opinion, it was a bit unfair to say the OP was "against Tipper". Now, Jello seems to be entirely "against Tipper", but only pertaining the PRMC stuff.

I remember that WASP was a group singled out by the PRMC (They had an album titled something like Fuck Like A Beast). Now, I wouldn't want my kids to listen to stuff like that. Not because they would hear the word fuck, but because of the crappy music. :7

16. I know...wasn't dissing you..but Tipper gets trashed on DU for her
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 11:01 PM by KoKo01
speaking out against some lyrics she thought should have a caution. And folks forget her kids were young when she spoke out. What some of us want to listen to when we are single is much different than when we have kids...it makes difference to "some of us."

I have a friend who was thrilled that her four year old was singing "Like a Virgin...touched for the very first time" when Madonna had her hit with that. She thought it was so cute. But, I wondered at the time if the kids Grandparents might not have had some :eyes: about it. Some parents are okay with that...some aren't. It's a very hard thing to deal with. I wouldn't ban Madonna from singing what she wants..but it's gotten much more graphic than Madonna. Like would one want a four year old singing: "Bitch Slap the Fucking Ho...go down on 'em." YUCK!!!!

Peace! :-)'s

17. I can understand where you're coming from here
What really bothers me now is how accessible porn has become. Some adult websites have intro warning pages, but the unscrupulous porn purveyors make it all too easy to mistype a URL and be bombarded by all kinds of stuff I don't want myself or my kids to see.

Getting back to the topic thread, I personally like the politics of Tipper (and Al) much more than Joe.

2. Jello Biafra tells it like it is.
I highly recommend his spoken word compilation "If Evolution Is Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Evolve". If you prefer music to your rants, then I recommend last year's "Never Breathe What You Can't See", which is Jello with The Melvins. This was my second favorite disc of last year.

8. In my younger days...
I bought "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables" without knowing anything about DK (just thought the band title was interesting). By the time "Kill The Poor" had finished, I was hooked.

4. Jello for President!!! :)
If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Zappa had a bone to pick with Tipper back in those days too, didn't he? Among others... Tipper used to be the only problem I ever had with Al, but I sure as hell would have voted for him (I showed up to vote for him, my name had been purged from the voter rolls...true).

Purged from voter rolls?! Were you registered Democrat, if I may ask? I only hear about Democrats being purged, for some reason....

14. Dee Snider clowned Tipper in the congressional hearings as well.
Very funny stuff, she looked like a fool. Man, I hated her in the 80's. And sad as it may be, a lot of people from that era didn't forget her idiotic crusade and voted against her husband in 2000.
