I'm a little annoyed with google news right now.
I don't post much, but this really bugged me.

I have my homepage set on google, and I went over to google news, just to check out some stuff.

At the top of their news page, they usually have the top two stories listed. It's 12:15 AM Tuesday and the second lead story is this:

Alarm: Gay Marriage War Heats Up!!!

Now, that's fine by me. I'm gay, and it's true. But, when you click on it, this is where it takes you:

http://leverkuhn.redstate.org/story/2005/3/15/04541/0857

That's "redstate.org" !!

I've never really paid much attention to google's news, but when I have, it doesn't really seem that slanted.

But I can't believe they'd actually pull a top story headline from a website like that. Usually it's the NY Times or something at least a little more mainstream. (I know, the MSM is not so good either...but this is just outright ridiculous on their part. It's "redstate.org" for crying out loud!)

Just had to vent. :) And I emailed Google, too.

Matt

1. I keep saying to myself "unbelievable", but then I correct myself
cause I do believe it. Hope your venting makes you feel a little better. If you get a reply from google, post it. Would love to hear this one!

2. Google doesn't choose what stories get put up. I believe they
use the same method as their search engine to rank stories. That is the more links out on the net pointing to a story the higher it is ranked.

8. Well I've seen Drudge make it before.
If all the conservative blogs pick up a story and there is an organized effort to "google bomb" the URL it is very possible.

4. Google is not what it used to be,.
When they started their news area, you were always taken to mainstream news, and now it's likely to be anything:(

5. Gays are being attacked in Indiana, too...
This crap makes me sick. Indiana is going to vote on a Constitutional amendment soon... it is expected to pass the legislature. Where in the hell can I move where my skills and tax dollars are appreciated?

9. The Indiana House has a bunch of fundie-sickos in it -
they have their noses stuck up Daniel's ass. Daniels in turn, has his nose up Bush's playbook. I've noticed the increasing negative attitude towards gays also. Rocks are being thrown at our community center and residences of prominent queers. Phabulous Fred Phelps was in town over the weekend, but everyone was deliberately civil to his crew. I think the Phelpsies were dissapointed by the lack of "opposition." They were treated as basically a nuisance. Yes, I hate to see Indiana make a sharp turn to the red. Shame.

6. I'm a little annoyed also
I understand your vent. I'm 56, female, Irish Catholic, married for 35 years (to the same man) and I'm angry beyond belief at what is happening to all of us. Jaysus, what a nightmare this has become.
