Hollywood Showdown: Warren Beatty Warns Schwarzenegger He Could Be Lunch
Arhnold has been taking a lot of heat recently as he tours the country, not just CA raising money for his special interest government reform referendum that he is trying to force on CA voters. Just tonight in Sacramento, Arhnold held a $100,000 per person fundraiser.

However, as Arhnold prepared to attend his fundraiser tonight, ArnoldWatch.org released a press release and a video clip about some choice words that Warren Beatty dished out over the weekend when accepting his 3rd Phillip Burton Public Service Award. It’s clear in reading Beatty’s speech that not all of Hollywood is enamored with Arhnold, the actor turned Governator.

Here are some of the highlights from Beatty’s speech…

It’s become time now to define a Schwarzenegger Republican. -- A Schwarzenegger Republican is a Bush Republican who calls himself a Schwarzenegger Republican.

And with Arnold calling Democrats “stooges” and “girlie men” and “losers” and his general disrespect and bullying of honest legislators who’ve also been willing to make the sacrifices necessary to serve in public office, with a lot less fan fare than the governor I might add, it should be pointed out that they’ve all been elected by the people in what is called a representative democracy -- with checks and balances.

1. More good stuff to read at link
I found--" not special interests, but people you should be especially interested in" --a classy way to kick some govenator butt.

2. Good for Beatty
But unfortunately I don't think Arnold will be defeated next year (or whenever it is he's up for reelection).

3. Beatty was always an "out of step" guy,
and he's been out of the public eye for a long time. I doubt whether he could beat Ahhhnold.. We will have to rely on Ahhhnold defeating ahhhhnold:) I KNOW he can do it:)

4. 2006
We need a kick ass canidate, but he's pissed off nurses and teachers and public servants of just about every stripe, without throwing much read meat to the base. It'd be uphill but it's certainly doable at this point.

5. All we need
is a male celebrity Democrat to run against him. I think that would take him out.

How about Edward Furlong? He's destined to save the human race from them!! *points at Arnold and the republican machines*

17. In the ads against Arnold, we need to do this...
Cut back and forth between soundbites of Arnold being arrogant, offensive and reactionary, and a repeat of the line from TERMINATOR where the Marine who becomes John Connor's father says(of Arnold's character):

"It's what he does...IT'S ALL HE DOES!!!"

10. Ahhhhnold has lost the Bay Area and Los Angeles County...
... he had support in these areas during the recall but now has so alienated and pissed off Democrats that he is losing major support. The teachers union and the rest of the groups that he characterizes as "special interests" (meaning Democrats)... Yet he has no problem with the millions given to him form his own Republican special interests... what a phony. If we wanted a Bush Republican we would have voted for that idiot Simon. What exactly has Ahhhhnold done for California? Not one fucking thing. He is running around playing movie star with a Governor title.

12. Vote Fraud signs in California elections 2006...
This should give you an idea of what is really going on with Ah-nold.

http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/05/27/cover-schoenkopf.php

BTW, our California Democratic Secretary of State just quit. Also, his house was broken into and whoever broke in left all the valuables behind and stole his PDA with all his political connections on it. Swartznagger replaced him with a Republican! I predict some vote fraud and a new Katherine Harris/Ken Blackwell in the 2006 elections.

"Outgoing Secretary of State Kevin Shelley told San Francisco police that his Glen Park home was burglarized over the weekend by someone who bypassed valuable property in favor of his state-issued handheld computer....Shelley's personal digital assistant device was said by employees to be one of his most prized possessions. He reportedly bragged to them so often about using it to raise $3 million in donations for his 2002 campaign for secretary of state that they came to dub it "the Palm Pilot speech."

19. How's the redistricting thing going? I haven't checked lately
I caught a State Rep on a repug radio talkshow the other night talking about redistricting and how to make it work....... =o/

I told people a bit before and right after Nov elections that California was not "a sure bet" for the future. Hardly anyone believed me.

The rabid repugs in this state are working OVERTIME to turn Cali RED and/or hand it to the repugs for next Prez election. This is a HUGE state; there are areas here that are almost totally repug. I've watched, in my SF Bay Area/Monterey Bay location, the hard right move in over the years and start to multiply like a fungus.

I live in a University town. Liberal/progressive thought was king until the last approx 10 years. It still holds a lot of sway but not nearly as much as before. Even our only local radio is HARD RIGHT. It's chilling.

Just because this is the west doesn't mean there isn't a large portion of rich repugs and not a few redneck/fundie reactionaries wanting to change this state and wreak havoc.

We Dem. Californians MUST pay attention and fight like wildcats to wrangle power back from the encroaching RIGHT WING. :kick: :kick: :kick:

14. What is Arnold doing?
Not living in California, I don't really know all that much about what Arnold is doing governor. His talk and support of Bush do give a negative impression, but the important thing is what policies he's really doing as Governor. Anyone want to elaborate on his actual record in office?

23. In shorthand, basically inverse his PR rhetoric and you'd get the drift
of what he's about. Workers to Ahnold are "special interests;" corporations and the monied interests are the "people of California" he's working for. Fiscally, he's playing a shell game, his bond measure (was it only last year?) was a bandaid that increased state indebtedness, and he's going to considerable lengths to avoid taking on his real constituency, those "monied interests" who give him millions because oh they're truly selfless citizens just concerned about good gov't, uh huh: http://www.arnoldwatch.org/special_interests/index.html:

I recall when his first state budget hit in-home support services to the disabled, programs that helped disabled folks live outside of an institutionalized setting. Protestors marched (and wheeled) on the state capitol. There were folks in wheelchairs, etc along with their in home aides. It was a freaking amazing and disturbing sight, if you can imagine.

Just one face of Ahnold's budget priorities. Can't/won't even close tax loopholes to raise revenue, but he can hit the weakest among us. Who lobbies for them? Who attends his fundraisers on their behalf?

And this year he's back again with reductions that impact these sorts of "special interests" who apparently can't afford $100K seats at his table:

State workers, elderly, poor bear brunt of cuts, critics say
By Bill Ainsworth
STAFF WRITER

...In addition to limiting education spending, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hopes to balance the state budget by targeting programs for poor people and pensions for state employees.

Schwarzenegger's budget, released yesterday, proposed saving $1.4 billion in health and welfare programs and $407 million by rolling back pension payments and benefits for state workers...

...As part of his plan, the governor wants to trim welfare grants by 6.5 percent, reducing the $723 a month payment to a family of three to $676. On top of that, he wants to eliminate cost-of-living increases for welfare recipients in CalWORKs and for the aged, blind and disabled.

Schwarzenegger plans to reduce wages for workers in In-Home Supportive Services, which helps disabled people live in their homes.
"If this proposal takes effect, you'll see many consumers suddenly without a worker to perform essential daily functions, and as a result, these consumers will be institutionalized," said Patricia Yeager, executive director of the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers.

Long Salon article, I think you can get access by seeing an ad if you're not a subscriber:

The truth about Arnold
The movie star poses as a corruption-fighting moderate. But since taking office, he's pursued a blatantly right-wing agenda while raking in big bucks from special interests -- and ignoring his own financial conflicts.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Peter Byrne

Feb. 15, 2005

...At first, the new governor sporadically fit the role of social liberal but fiscal conservative. He endorsed stem cell research, strengthened protections for domestic partners and supported access to public records. Conversely, he campaigned against reforming the penal law, called for setting up a DNA database for felons, and vetoed a bill allowing illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses. But, overall, people bought into his seeming moderation -- fully two-thirds of the state's general public favored his governorship. No California governor in modern times has enjoyed such a broad-based mandate to tinker with the government of the world's fifth-largest economy.

But with his defiantly immoderate State of the State speech in early January, when he proposed to drastically cut back education and social services in lieu of taxing the rich, Schwarzenegger blindsided liberal Californians with his nakedly Republican agenda. This week, the celebrity governor travels to Washington to mine his relationship with President Bush and the GOP-controlled Congress to boost federal spending for California. Since arriving in Sacramento, Schwarzenegger has:

Taken governmental actions that benefit his personal finances, in apparent violation of state law.
Collected tens of millions of dollars from many of the same "special interests" he had sworn to kick out of town when he was elected.
Vetoed bills that would have protected labor, the environment, workplace safety and consumers.
Sought to centralize his power by abolishing citizen-run boards that make important regulatory decisions.
Advocated for increased deregulation of the electricity market.

For more than a year, proximity to the "Governator" has blinded Democratic Party leaders, reporters, editors and the public to the tawdry reality taking place in front of their eyes -- the huckstering of a conservative product line and the glorification of the Schwarzenegger brand in California's highest public office.
