A Basic Truth : Republicans Suck At Governing
Because, generally speaking, they oppose government. They oppose taxes to run government, necessary or unnecessary. They are incapable of any fiscal responsibility. But still, Republicans are a necessary evil. They keep the "pro-government" Democrats from going to extremes. That is really their only reason for existence.

However, they should never be put in charge of "government". Both Democrats and Republicans should realize that truth. It should be obvious to all. They are necessary as an opposing Party to the people, to maintain some balance in our form of government, but they are the worst -case scenario when the people choose them to lead our country.

1. You make a good talking point
If they are so opposed to government, then why should we hire any of them to govern?

I know that's a dumb question, but a lot of dumb people vote on logic like this, why not use it?

so there will be no money for Social programs. That may also make it politically possible to eliminate all social programs as money would "need" to be spent on the military.

Also, we need to get a new frame for "social programs". Use of the word "social" makes it all sound flaky.

7. Double edged sword.

Bankrupting our economy is actually causing folks to want taxes raised on the richest people in America. Those social progams are popular. The ultra-wealthy are not popular.

6. Theirs is an ideology-based philosophy
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 11:10 AM by Jeff in Cincinnati
They have "truth" and they want the world (and its outcomes) to correspond to what they believe. The problem, of course, is that the world is stubbornly resistent to their belief structure. Example: Republicans cut taxes in the belief that low taxes will stimulate the economy. But has government services dry up and investment capital moves offshore, their ideology is not only ineffective, it actually makes the problem worse as all those capitalists take their money and run.

I have a Republican Congressman (and utter fool) who believes that the real problem is that we aren't cutting taxes enough. Honest to God, he actually said that at a town hall meeting a year or two ago in response to a question about tax cuts, the budget deficit, and the lack of jobs. This guy actually believes that a one-ton boat anchor drags you down, but a two-ton boat anchor will become suddenly buoyant.

They're simply not rational.

Democrats are outcomes-based in their philosophy. We want the world to be objectively better for the people who live in it. We want people without jobs to be working and those without health insurance to have coverage. We want safe neighborhoods and good schools. And most of us don't give two shits about the creation of the universe as long as you don't muck up our science textbooks with your religious beliefs.

Facts matter to Democrats. Republicans simply want to prove their point, and that more than anything explains their increasing tendency to lie when backed into a corner. They've been running the Congress and many state legislatures for more than a decade and we have nothing to show for it. All of their ideology hasn't made life better for anyone other that the neo-Robber Barons who fund their campaigns.
