Have you ever seen the footage of bush debating ten years ago?
It's a clip of bush debating then Texas Gov. Ann Richards in 1994. It is put side-by-side with footage of bush debating Kerry in 2004.

VERY eye-opening. If you haven't seen it, you must. This is in Quick Time and this website is the ONLY place I can now find it on the net. Many other sites who used to host it are no longer doing so. If you have the bandwith to have it on a website of yours, please do. Or mirror it or whatever. I have bookmarked it.

It's horrible.

3. Yes, the deterioration is of note.
He went from savvy to sad in ten years.

4. Right about the middle of that video file, when bush
is talking about the juvenile justice system (in 1994), he's speaking so quickly that when I first saw this video, I swore there was something wrong with it. Like it was on fast forward or something.

I live in Texas. I watched those debates in 94 and I had TOTALLY forgotten how he used to be. I've gotten so used to the drooling, eeeeeeh-ing, aaaaaaaah-ing, stuttering, incoherent total fool he is now.

5. From fairly good liar to rediculously bad liar.
If you know what he did to Texas public education, you know how much complete bullshit he was spewing in 94. That hasn't changed, the delivery is just much poorer.

6. Oh his positions have ALWAYS been vile.
What that footage points out is his marked deterioration in verbal and cognitive skills in just ten years.

He's too young to be this bad. I think he's had a stroke or strokes.

11. Unquestionable drain bamage.
When you can afford as much blow and alcohol as he did, that level of abuse does irreparable cellular destruction. He's as bad as raygun was, but at a much younger age.

7. Wow!
Incredible contrast. His articulation and the smoothness and tempo of his speech is terrific in the older video. The 04 tape clearly shows not only that he cannot compose an answer without fumbling terribly but that his voice prompter wasn't working for a minute or so. You can literally see and hear exactly when the prompter starts working again. He's not good, but he's clearly more comfortable and has a train of thought to follow ... though it's certainly not his own.

9. I like the one reviewer in total denial
I mean. Forget about what he's saying. You look at clips like that from 10 years ago and nobody can convince me that he hasn't slipped remarkably since then.

Whether it's pre-senile dementia...not my place to say. Nor is it someones place who hasn't actually diagnosed the president.

Still, it's a scary thought.

10. This video is one of the things I base my contention
that he's got Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome and he's drinking on the sly, which is making it worse.

The physical symptoms of Wernicke Korsakoff can be alleviated by large doses of Thiamine if the person has stopped drinking. The cognitive deficits are forever.

He's getting worse. He may not make it through the full four years.

http://www.healthcentral.com/mhc/top/000771.cfm

It's all there, the confabulation, the facial droop, the slurred speech, the difficulty exiting a car, the occasional difficulty with balance when he's walking, dropping the dog, the disconjugate gaze. If that aint Bush, what is?

13. Hmmm, I hadn't seen any information on that before.
But I swear, you are on to something with that.

So are you saying if he IS drinking, he cannot take Thiamine to alleviate his problems, or that he can take it, but it will do no good?

My stepfather has "wet brain" I'm sure you know what that is. 30 years of being an alcoholic and his liver is hardly affected, but his brain......he was once a brilliant man and I don't use that word lightly. Now he is working in a hardware store and sometimes has to be reminded what his own name is. An extreme case, to be sure. He's the same age as bush.

17. That's Wernicke Korsakoff
and I saw a lot of it when I worked in Boston. Caucasian alcoholics tend to have their brains fizzle before their livers do, unlike the tribes I see out here, where the livers kill them young.

One man had completely forgotten 20 years of his life and 3 wives.

Thiamine will alleviate the physical symptoms somewhat, but not if he continues to damage his central nervous system with drinking.

I think they had him on a short leash from the end of September last year, because I did see an improvement up to the elections. However, he's now incapable of memorizing speeches, and that earpiece is essential to any public appearance.

This is an extremely strong suspicion on my part, and I wouldn't call it a diagnosis. However, I do think it's something that needs to be looked into and soon. He's obviously a sick man and he's getting worse.

I almost feel sorry for Mr.bush. Stopped myself in time though. History books on this time period will be interesting to read in another 50 yrs, if we survive.

15. Thanks a lot!!!
Bush has Wernicke-Korsakov Syndrome (and likely suffered fetal alcohol syndrome).

Noun
1.
Korsakoff's syndrome - dementia observed during the last stages of severe chronic alcoholism; involves loss of memory for recent events although long term memory is intact

20. Yeah his statements are still just as bad.
In fact, he was rather more open about his hateful shit back then. But it's his presentation/ability to speak that has really just disappeared.

No wonder he's compared to a monkey. I cannot bear to watch it again, I've never seen anyone hold their mouth in such a freakish manner. It's disgusting.

... evidently wouldn't be enough to account for this!

Thanks for posting, BB!

Also, reading about Dubya and possible thiamine use ...

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202560.html

Some people might experience side effects:

"Coughing; difficulty in swallowing; hives; itching of skin; swelling of face, lips, or eyelids; wheezing or difficulty in breathing"

Well, we know about the pretzel incident already. And I've noticed that W has been puffing and wheezing a bit more lately (e.g. his trip to Canada in November).
http://www.dubyaspeak.com/audio.shtml

Could be that he really WAS experiencing some difficulty breathing?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1663978

And various DUers have noticed that he looks bloated and blotchy.

More side-effects info here ...
