How much can really be changed?
there's a saying "when glass breaks it's broken"

let's just say that in 2006 we get a democrat majority.

and in 2008, we get a real democrat president.

How much of the damage wrought by this administration can be changed? Can we go backwards? Can things this administration has put in place be repealed?

or is it best to move forward and try to pick up the pieces?

1. Pick up the pieces and move on.
The world will rightfully not trust any American anymore. raise taxes on the rich to pay down the debt and beg the world for forgiveness.

2. We can definitely change some of it
We can hold truth hearings and uncover how much our country was really fucked up by the Neo-cons, thus ensuring that people never trust those snakes again. We can begin balancing the budget. A new admin can begin to gain the world's trust again. Hope springs eternal. It's up to us "little people" to make it happen though, as the DNC is not exactly wowing me these days.

i was about to spiral into depressiont here for a minute.

you're right - we can make soem strides to repair the damage and insure no one ever goes down that neoCON path again. But i fear things have to get really really really bad before your average american would give up there blessed republicans.

4. Personally, I beleive that until we put corporations back in their
proper place, things will not change. Corporations should not have personhood rights. Many of our current laws give greater protection to corporations than to people. The (mostly) men who run these corporations are frequently not held accountable nor is their personal wealth at risk, for the harmful decisions they make as corporate officers. Also, as long as corporations can contribute to policticians & sponsor lobbying groups, we the people don't stand a chance.

Under the Dems, things may not go in the shitter quite so quickly, but as we have seen with the recent bankruptcy bill, many Dems know who butters their bread, & it ain't you & me! If the Dems acted with backbone & integrity, we may actually reverse some of the awful legislation that has passed, but IMHO, corporate personhood must be revoked if we are to ever have a government of, by & for the people.

Just my 2¢.

6. Yep. Yet it seems like it's going to hell pretty damned quickly . . .
When are the stupid sheeple going to wake up? WTF is it going to take to wake these A-holes up? And will there be anything worth salvaging when/if they finally do?

Everyday my hope takes another beating.

8. the reTHUGlicans will now START THE DRAFT....

when 83 % of "potential draftees" (18-27 years old) did NOT VOTE !

and young Americans can NO LONGER even mount a defense of ANWR....

the message to Congress and bush* is very very CLEAR: go ahead with your WARS and everything else...we are not going to stop it....

I was SHOCKED, just in the last few days: a GOLD STAR mother was trashed on DU, her whole "stop the war NOW" movement derailed by the POWERFUL....stole valuable time from the anti-war movement MAJOR events this weekend...in a SECOND nasty confrontation...those who placed the 1000 caskets out for viewing were ATTACKED, called names here on DU....and hardly anyone STOOD UP....even to defend these BRAVE AMERICAN PATRIOTS...

perhaps you see the STEALTH undermining of this weekends' protests....taking time away from activists, dissing their efforts, forcing them to defend themselves HERE, making other possible protestors STAY HOME, degrading anyone who MIGHT stand up....it's deliberate, and it's HERE today...and few try to stop it....

there's not much left anymore....it's a total take-over....the DRAFT will begin soon, and MOST will go like sheep to the slaugher....

9. last election sewed it up in my mind...
same cheating, same mode of operation. What makes you think there's a chance in any further 'elections'? False hope is devastating.
