For the sake of argument, please indulge me by not bringing up the moral issue of stealing from your neighbor or invading a country to plunder the resources. I agree with you, the whole nature of our foreign policy is an historical embarrassment that will take generations to live down.
Having said that, now let's look at the Neo-Con agenda from the perspective of a street guy. In other words, "what's in it for me?"
The average American has to pay for this war, and their children, and their children's children, by the looks of it.
The average American has to fight this war, or their children, or their children's children.
Yet, the oil in question does not belong to those who are actually sacrificing. In fact, those who gain by the plunder are actually profiting at the expense of the average American now, such as Halliburton.
If America actually does gain control of the foreign oil fields, or some "puppet" regime does so as a proxy, that profit, or plunder won't go to those who took the "risk" in capital or blood, but to those who already profited or are standing by to profit, such as Atlantic, Exxon, Mobile, and the like.
We, as consumers, will continue to pay the piper.
As a result, even if you favor this conflict and agree with the Neo-Con agenda, here is what you should also ask for.
1. A national draft lottery, so everyone is on a level playing field. All the sacrifices are borne equally and the risks are the same. This must be a draft with no exemptions, other than the obvious medical ones, and no special treatment. everyone is in it, including sons and daughters of White House personnel and congress.
2. A National surcharge, to pay for the war on a pay as you go basis. Kind of like calling in your margin in the market. If the war will cost $100 billion this year, every household should be assessed that portion, proportionally to their income.
3. Most important, Nationalize all the Oil companies into one. The American Citizens Oil Company. A wholly owned subsidiary of the American people.
If these assholes are going to insist on fighting these wars in our name we should make them share the burden, and surly share the spoils.
Well, that's what I think, anyway.
