1. And they eagerly ignore the US Constitution, US laws, international laws; |
|
how do we have any guarantee they wouldn't just as eagerly ignore living wills?

4. Same thing I thought... |
|
I'm just waiting until they use this whole mess to make any disconnection of life support (even if it's the person's wishes) considered to be murder.

5. Yep. And the same with the slipperly slope of miscarriages; |
|
soon smoking cigs while PG or shovelling snow or carrying heavy bags of groceries even if you're not aware of being PG at the time, and you happen to miscarry weeks/months later, and that'll be considered murder, too.
We appear to be well on our way of showing the Taleban how true fanatical oppression should be done, courtesy of the rightwingnuttery.

2. Some points about living wills |
|
When I had my living will drawn up, my lawyer told me to be sure I discussed the issue with my family and my doctor. He also recommended giving a copy to the family member most likely to make medical decisions if I were incapacitated and to my family practitioner. My doctor concurred saying that the document would do no good unless everybody involved knew about it. And if the document isn't produced all it will take is one Fundy nut case relative raising a stink to confuse the issue.

3. Living wills are very important, but if they're not specific |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 08:03 AM by Feeney2
someone, somewhere someone will find anything to challenge them.
What I find troubling about this case are the lengths repukes in congress will go to interfer in a private matter. They wanted to have this poor woman hauled into a hearing? They use courts and lawyers whenever they please but trash courts and lawyers for political reasons? It is about time that DeLay be indicted so the nation can rest.

6. Living Wills can be overturned |
|
everyone one should fill out an Advance Directive form and select someone you trust as having durable power of attorney to execute your wishes--be specific when filling it out. Advance Directive forms are free at all clinics--just ask. These cannot be over-ridden by a family member, a living will can (too vague).

7. Not if the BugMan has his way |
|
Living wills will be required to go into detail about the specific condition and your wishes with the specific must be specifically defined in the living will underthe legislation the BugMan got passed in the House.
In other words, to be effective, every potential scenario and your wishes regarding that scenario must be spelled out, making living will documents of thousands upon thousands of pages.
Even with all of that, an unforseen scenario not covered in your living will could still occur and then you're fucked.
