Turk 182 - anyone remember that movie? Work with me here... |
|
From years ago that starred Timothy Hutton and Robert Urich? Story about a fireman (Urich) who was hurt on the job and wasn't receiving the care and benefits he should have. In steps the younger brother (Hutton) to do a very visible protest by posting the message "Turk 182" everywhere the mayor or other officials appeared. From buildings, bridges, banners, etc. Turk was the older brother's nickname and 182 was his engine company number (correct me if I have a few details wrong!). The upshot of all the attention got the people of the city pulling for this mysterious crusader while embarrassing the city officials.
Anyway, that movie has had me thinking for the last couple of weeks. What kind of protest would that make and would it even be possible? A couple of weeks ago, when King Chimpy brought his bamboozlepalooza tour to Kentucky I kept thinking how nice it would be to do something just as notable. Now I'm weak on the actual details or the plans but couldn't you see a huge sign unfurled from a building or bridge saying some snappy about Chimpy's lies just as the a$$wipe is walking into the "town hall?" I certainly don't want to hurt the guy but something in your face that the media just couldn't ignore. (What actually started this train of thought was a 5-6 story banner with the picture of Muhammad Ali hanging from a downtown Louisville building. Or, maybe, someone hack into the PA system while the guy is trying to spread his lies and issue statements from a safe place that can't be shouted down or have the offender escorted out. Too radical? Too daring? Too stupid? I know it would be an extremely long shot but oh, so effective. Small signs and placards are nice but wouldn't a huge banner be just dandy? The method could even be extended to the Congressional repukes and their in-state lie fests to the home folks. And how could this be against the law? It is a banner or a speech. Nothing threatening, harmful, etc. I don't want to hurt anyone - just embarrass the hell out of the jerks who keep destroying this country.
Again, don't want to threaten the guy in any way (Ok, Agent Mike?) but something needs to grab the attention of the sheeple who aren't paying attention to all of the terrible things this bunch is doing to the country. The message of the movie was that you have to speak up for yourself, that the little guy can win, nonviolence can work and that everyone pulls for the underdog. Besides that it would be funnier than hell. We could use a few laughs to get us through this a$$wipe's term.
I need a new tin foil hat - this one is obviously too tight.

there is very little chance of a 'surprise' anything along *'s route. The secret service has events staked out days in advance.

Admitted, it's not as short and pithy. But, it says a lot, I think.
