that's really far too upbeat for Cheney.

There's a new mold in the works that should replace that assembly-line smile with a truly hideous SNARL to befit The Dick.

4. What is this crap?
Why do opponents of Bush try to increasingly rely on "Shock" tactics. It reminds me of one of the current trends at anti-war protests nowadays - induced vomiting.

WTF???

Back in the 60's people had a GOOD TIME. They smoked weed, played guitar, and partied while giving the far right the finger at the same time. Nowadays its all about how disgusting you can be - bullshit.

"But if you go carryin' pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow".

Remember when it used to feel GOOD to be a Liberal - pictures like this make me hate the far left as much as I hate the far right.

responses like the above makes it a rather good time for me. Thanks!

ironically: "They smoked weed, played guitar, and partied while giving the far right the finger at the same time." was the fuel for:

http://www.terminalproduct.com/noisespew.html

you're welcome to feel good about Rumsfeld in the meantime.

I'll be trying to put him in a sitcom complete with laugh track to pass the time.

NEW FROM GALOOB: shock-less middle finger... give the right a jolting finger without offending tender, Devo-hair sensibilities... comes with free e-z acoustic strum and mournful harmony!

"Just so you know I'm independent. So carrying that forward..."

likewise, dearie.

"You patently admit you get off on peoples displeasure. Heh!!"

of course! Noise music isn't very listener-friendly unless you get a respectful German crowd sitting ramrod straight in their seats. If you're not being paid, a fun audience makes it worth doing. Shrug.

"Your gonna help the Dems win a lot of votes that way Jerk Whiz."

I don't work for campaigns, I try and capture this goofy world through a cracked mirror for my own amusement. Thanks for significantly adding to my snickering.

Ok so you're NOT a democrat. You're just some one who likes posting posting retarded pictures on the internet. Still it proves my point.

It used to feel GOOD to be a liberal. Nowadays the classification has been taken over by people who love to HATE. They don't give a crap about the party, they don't give a crap about the country. All they care about is proving to the rest of the world just how much they HATE the right wing.

Sad.

And it DIVIDES voters. It does not UNITE them. :(

(wistful voice) - but yes, I remember those feelgood liberal days, when there used to be concerts in the park... oh yes, and flowers were crammed into each ear, why - every orifice was rank with the fume of some foliage - it was peaceful and everyone smiled, even though the Vietnam stuff kinda interfered with comfortable TV watching...

and we all got along, and we all refrained from getting upset, and heavens - we never put on Nixon masks and did terrible impersonations....

ahhh, I remember it all so clearly...

8. Actually,
art has long been a medium for 'shocking' political dissent. Look at Guernica, for example- the more you look at it, the more disturbed you become.

I'm also thinking of the new Holocaust museum in Germany. By all accounts, it's a very disturbing place, without the documents and photos.

We're not having a "good time" with dissent today because we can't. We're forbidden from it. Think about the "first amendment zones". We're angry, the anger is raw, and there's no room in it for anything but dark humor. It is, sadly, a sign of the times.

I'm only 28; I can't speak for what happened in the 1960s. One difference, however, I *do* see clearly.... the media aren't covering us this time around. There's too much money being given to the media by the entities we're dissenting against. That puts it in their financial best interest to not report on us, or under-report the numbers if the protest is too big to ignore.

It will only get uglier. The more we are ignored, the more visceral our protests will become. That is only a matter of time. Eventually, after being ignored long enough... it'll all boil over, and I guarantee you if things continue as they are, it will be a bloody time indeed.

Just my $.02.

Bullshit. There is more access to independent media nowadays than there was back then - this website is a prime example.

People have MOVED to the right because of the repulsive sorts of wackos that I'm talking about. They keep divisive issues at the forefront, at the expense of the issues that unite the country as a whole. That's what's been killing the Democratic Party over our lifetimes.

Like you instance?

The way you take it personal one would guess you
had never seen any art made in the last century.

I guess you only like things that "feel good" like
smoking a J or sing a little song well struming a
guitar.

This image that it felt good to be a "liberal" in the
vietnam era is revisionist crap. Sure people tried to
excape the brutal truth but not many people people who
really cared had that much fun. And the fun that people
did have didn't win any points with the "normal" people
who roboted through life with their happy TV lifes.

Get a clue.

what exactly was shocking or upsetting, anyway?

a mask of Rumsfeld? the idea of Rumsfeld as a mask? is Halloween somehow working against the Democrats?

curious to see what triggered the huffin' and puffin'.

as an example:

the shock element is what? placing Bush next to the result of his policies? Pointing out collateral damage? Hasty photoshoping and tacky color scheme? is the art more shocking than the dead children? If so, please describe. Use a number 2 pencil. Make your marks heavy and dark.

You write music venmax - your art.

And thebigidea is also a musician.

I'm still confused about this whole "liberal/voting" thing you're going on about... I'm not a spokesman for anything but insomnia... if you want a positive message, turn on Pat Robertson. Or try Tony Roberts, apparently he's really upbeat.

"Enjoy your downward spiral dipshit."

Has been a fun though slightly nauseating ride, yeah. Who would've thought that a gallery of Dick Tracy villains would've seized control of the government?

And for someone concerned with shocking people, why - you seem downright RUDE... "my heavens, how unhelpful!" to quote Rumsfeld.

How will that play to the swing voters? They'll think the Democratic Party is in the midst of some Mods vs. Rockers kind of showdown between tender-eyed folkies and slightly cranky sample-synth-schizoids!

Those without electric guitars are weak on national security! Vote for me, I've got a bigger amplifier and far more effects pedals!

49. lol - PLEASE!
You post multiple insults on this thread and then whine that we're not REACHING OUT to you?

If you don't like art -- don't look at it! It's really a pretty simple concept!

54. but please, a disclaimer...
if you don't like it, please tell me why at length. It keeps the thread kicked and it keeps me giggling during tedious editing work.

Boy, I hope the finished product generates this kind of anger.

63. I'm ready for my closeup, Mister O'Reilly
blast of static - color-saturated splinters of light on bad TV set...

ANNOUNCER: "Coming up at 11 - Terrorists: are they hiding in your baking soda? And should you be storing it in the fridge after all… special tips on how not to die by some guy we found by the dumpster, looking for croutons and crumpled 8x10s of Greta Van Sustern…"

irritating bumper music and CG "Factor" nonsense. Pumping crapmusic.

O'REILLY: "And our next segment on the Factor, we look at what some call the TREASONOUS almost UNAMERICAN images of a so-called artist who looks more like a congealing young Jerry Lewis with a bad haircut to me."

cut to eternally smirking, eyebrow-rolling PERKOWSKI in black kung fu outfit with HOMELAND SECURITY FOREVER pin. CG TITLE underneath: "SUPPOSED ARTISTE OF THE ABSURD"

O'REILLY: "So let me get this straight - you made an image, and I dignify it perhaps… TOO MUCH calling it that… I mean… this is just… beyond the pale. When my staff showed me this, I almost didn't want to put it on national television - but Dick Morris couldn't be here due to some unpaid Motel Six bills…"

OFFENSIVE IMAGE is shown in the upper left hand corner. "ART??!" in comic green font underneath.

PERKOWSKI: "Oh, it's just really fabulous to be here, Bill. I'm a big fan."

Phony smile creeps up on O'Reilly's bloated puss.

O'REILLY: "You don't say - well, if you were a real FOX FAN - at www.foxnews.com slash O'Reilly, you wouldn't be making disgusting pictures of the Bush family gloating over collateral damage. Now let me show you a clip from the Minority Leader earlier today - he had some harsh words… and I want you to respond."

TRENT LOTT: "It was utterly obscene, more outrageous than everything I've ever seen and I had to send some flowers and opium to Former President Bush to smooth things over, because he really got into a towering fury… and I believe that the American People will be behind the bill that's currently passed in the house, the 2002 ANTIAMERICAN ART CONTAINMENT BILL that's gotten strong bipartisan support, uhh… Senator Zell Miller praised it's delicate phrasing and even Joe Leiberman puckered his lips and inserted a death penalty clause."

PERKOWSKI: "Uhhh… well, how can you take anything that man says seriously? He looks like a goddamn Autobot from the Transformers series - I keep excepting him to Transform or form Blazing Sword on the floor of the Senate…"

O'REILLY: "This is the No-Spin Zone, so don't try any of that fancy east AND west coast gibberish talk here, Mister Denied Modernist… it says here on this yellow piece of paper that you once killed a man just for snoring too loud."

PERKOWSKI: " Down with King George! One Two Three Four, Pretzel Monkey Hit the Floor! Bin Laden , Baker y la Casa de Bush - they all profit when the blood goes gush! One two-"

microphone goes dead, Perkowski continues screaming and making complicated Masonic gestures for no apparent reason.

O'REILLY: "Coming up next - Transvestite Lemonade Salesman with Wooden Legs - are they really safe for our children?"

fade out.

60. From the website on venmax's messages:

Spitfire
This song always makes me think of combat aircraft for some reason. I once saw a documentary on the RAF's WWII "Spitfire" and am convinced this has to be one of the most amazing fighter planes ever built. This song is dedicated to the people of Great Britain who were Brave enough (or crazy enough) to help us Yanks fight the War in Iraq.

Do you really believe this?

this was such fun. His speech will be sorely missed.

And if I've made one Iron Maiden fan unhappy with my work, well (tears welling up)... cough... well, then it would've all been worth it. I'd like to thank you all for not buying my new book, and I'd like to blame myself for not writing one. Members of the Academy of Appetizing Art, Good night...

This from a person telling the artist to "shut up"

You make it soooooo easy...

Edit: "Shut up" meant metaphorically, not literally.

75. who are "you guys"?
Hell, even you'd have to admit that I'm quite graciously accepting your well thought-out critique. Its really changing the whole course of my life, I feel this need rising in me.... a need to stand up, face the world, and admit to all of them: Yes, I too am capable of covering a Sting song.

And you've made this miracle possible.

You've given me the courage to stop thinking "those kinds" of thoughts.

I'm feeling an overpowering urge to sit down in front of the tv, forget all this Dick Cheney business, and just... just... watch some "Full House."

Shout Hosanna and can I have a Hallelujah? We done RE-formed that uppity ar-teeste!

81. Aftermath: Footnote to an Entertaining Thread
ah, that was lovely.

Anyway, the above stills are from these completely perverse segments I've been shooting with some friends to fill out "the paranoia show" DVD/documentary that's been in the works for quite some time...

that "DC 9/11: Time of Crisis" movie put me in such a bad mood, that a sitcom rendition (complete with laugh track, boos, audience gasps, etc) with creepy lighting and creepier masks was in order to even the score.

Somehow, I get the feeling this version will end up being the more accurate one when the dust settles from Dubya's Crusade.
