1. No. I would celebrate.
But I would like it if New Orleans moved up here!

2. Nope. I'd joyfully and with a large smile wave "Buh Bye!"
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 10:17 PM by Rabrrrrrr
And ask that the south at least let the intelligent people leave before they secede.

7. The south can go and take all the Fundies with them. What a relief
that would be. Ahhhhhhh! Good riddance to bad rubbish.

6. Depends..
I live here, so the issue of secession would matter. Knowing my luck, it'd be over dildoes, the 10 Commandments, gay marriage or some other stupid shit.

8. What can we do to get them to seceed?
Move all the gays up here so they hate us and want to leave? Nevermind- I'll be damned if I give up Key West to the rednecks! Maybe we should let the poor women win and give out free abortions to everybody since we know how much empoverished women like to go through with that. Better yet, start opening drive-through abortion clinics. The repukes are actually expecting that, though. Hmm, what to do.

11. Florida could become a free state.
Strangle the redneck inland area, or kick the fundies into the panhandle. The panhandle could then join Alabama.

13. Gays..
Actually, there are plenty here in Birmingham. Oddly enough, at one point there were 5-6 thriving gay bars operating in town.

12. Wave bye-bye!!
And I'd offer to buy bus tickets for any rednecks in my neighborhood that want to move south of the Mason-Dixon line. That goes for family members, too.

I'm tired of trying to keep this "union" together, when it's so obviously a failed effort. I already feel like I need a passport to visit the South (and an armed guard), so might as well make it formal.

And while we're at it, let's get Texas to secede and become it's own country (again).

14. Another "let's relive the civil war" thread?
:eyes:

There are MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of Democrats in the South. Do you want to give up every Southern Congressional seat?

26. Yes, but many of the Democrats in the South are not White Yuppies....
Some are whites of the wrong sort. And many more are African-Americans whose ancestors have been here for centuries. Not to mention the Latino contingent.

No, the Yankee elitists would be glad to have a neater, less diverse country. Not to mention the oh-so-pure Californians who gave us Nixon & Reagan--with their current Governor only one Congressional Amendment from making it a Trifecta.

15. You'd let a fundie nutcase nation
with nuclear warheads exist right next to America?

Make no mistake about it, the fascist and blindly theocratic sensibilities of the right would turn it into a moral and ethical hellhole straight from a Dickens novel in next to no time. You might as well give Iran and Packistan two of our states and set them up with 1000 ICBM nukes each.

16. Oh this is just excellent!
Clear evidence that the bush regime has been sucessful at uniting us all against the evildoers. I understand the sentiment but rebel at the notion that shrub has brought us so low.

17. Divisive Flamebait.
What earthly benefit will this thread have on the advancement of liberal ideals or the resurrection of the Democratic Party ?

I am disappointed at the overt bigotry displayed by some members of DU.

21. With all the problems facing liberals and Democrats,
why would anyone want to create MORE hate, bigotry, and division. This stuff belongs on a least common denominator Forum, like FR.

19. If it meant getting away from the current insanity, YES
Geez, people don't secede for only narfarious purposes.

As a true daughter of the south, I reserve the right to make up my own mind if it comes down to it.

And to get away from the likes of GWB, yes I would.
