Why do the Right Wingers think of death as something bad? |
|
This has fascinated me. They see Terri as brain damaged to the extreme. Her body is twisted and contorted. But they think of letting her die and join her Lord as cruel punishment. The GOP fights to keep her in this brain damaged and contorted condition as the "right" way to go. Why?

1. terri is a poker chip to them... |

watching delay use her as one is a disgusting display political ignorance as is the case with capitol hill, there are many terri's across this land but jeb bush couldn't fix his; in the end it is another bush family character flaw, and they will use this: our entire federal government, to do what they themselves cannot imo

6. to some extent I think that is true |

I always had the same question. In fundy churches it is common to pray for an old person who has cancer. I always kinda wondered why. If we really believe in heaven, then why not go there ASAP? There is an issue many times, of a spouse who does not want to lose their companion even to heaven. On one of John Wesley's trips to America, his ship was caught in a storm. Wesley was scared sh*tless that he was going to die, but he noticed the group of Moravians who were on the ship were not afraid. They were happily singing as if they had not a care in the world. He was impressed by them and ashamed at his own lack of faith. So there is some of that with fundies too. In the Shiavo case, it is a matter though of not playing God. God gives us life, in their view, and God takes it away. For us to play God through murder, suicide, or euthanasia is a grevious wrong. They would be trying to force Terry to live (or exist, or for her body to live) even if she had it in writing, and even if her parents were on the same side as the husband. Euthanasia is hubris to them, even if the patient requests it.

First off, their extreme right wing fundie base has called their debt. The GOP promised them heaven and earth if they'd support 'em, and now Randall Terry and others are calling it. So far, they've failed to deliver on any of the promises they've made 'em (anti-gay marriage amendment, repeal of Roe v. Wade, etc.) so they are obliged to jump on the Schiavo bandwagon when the fundies tell 'em to jump. I don't think for a minute they are serious, it's merely making a lot of noise in an attempt to pander to their base. I suspect whatever bill they put together won't pass a Constitutional inspection. They'll then scream about "activist judges", despite that almost all of the judges involved are Repubs or GOP appointees.
Second, it's a good smokescreen. DeLay standing up there trying to look like a choirboy while spouting talking points drivel about "right to life" makes the base think he couldn't possibly be a bad person (buh bye ethics violations scrutiny by the public). It also pulls news media coverage away from not only his ethics, but the nuke option they are threating to use in judicial appointments with regard to fillibustering, as well as anti-war protests nationwide. There's only so much you can try to cover in a 30 minute MSM non-cable newscast, and if you fill it with "junk news" the real news gets buried.

9. They care nothing for human life. . . |
|
they are just using this situation to pander to the religious crazies. What annoys the crap out of me is allowing the entire NATION to stop everything to deal with something that our courts have already handled - again and again and again. It is an outrage that these people can get away with this travesty.
The wingnuts are afraid of death because they KNOW how many Commandments they've broken every day, especially the ones bearing false witness. I've heard more blustering shady "facts" from these people over this case in the last three days than I thought humanly possible to create. They know where they are really going when they depart this earth - and it shore ain't no heavenly existence.

Scalia, when talking about innocents on death row, said that if they were Christians, they shouldn't fear being killed by the government because they would go to heaven.
These people just want to be part of a big government that decides which of its citizens and which of the world's citizen live or die.

a stepping stone to legislating against abortion rights. This has nothing to do with Terri and everything to do with politics. It's sickening. I truly hope the Democrats are wise enough to stay far away from this pack of loonies. Judging from polls being run on the CNN and MSNBC web sites, the general populace is not thrilled with the thought of Congress deciding their family's fate.
