Why would Schiavo's cerebral cortex degenerate into liquid? |
|
Can anyone relay the medical explanation for this phenomena? Is it simple atrophy or was it related to the intial incident that caused her state?

2. That portion of her brain had died when she had her heart attack |
|
The dead tissue disintegrated and the empty space filled up with spinal cord fluid.

I hadn't considered localized necrosis.

8. There is a woman in the news at the moment |
|
whom they say had the same exact condition as Terri's, but she came out of her state and is functioning now.
Is that misinformation, or is it possible that some other part of the brain can pick up the functions of the part that is missing in Terri's brain?
I suspect there is something we're not being told there, as usual. But then again, maybe it's possible.
Do you know anything about that case?

4. There is a condition called ... |
|
cephalolacia (I *think* that's the spelling) in which injured brain tissue softens. If that's the same thing, then it's a degenerative and non-reversible condition.
I'm not, however, a doctor, so I can't say for sure this the even related to Terry Schiavo's case.

5. part of my dad's brain, his broca brain which helps him speak |
|
was damaged during a stroke and his doctors said that part of his brain liquified. He can't speak clearly and reading is hard but all his faculties are there. He just can't speak them. Its different than Terri. She had a worse event than my dad. It pains me more than I can articulate to think my dad, my beautiful dad has this happen to him but it did. That is what happens according to my doctors.

6. aphasia -- I just mangled the spelling |
|
but I know what that is. My dad had it. I hated the way it took away his ability to express himself. He had things he wanted to say, but sometimes I'd have to play 20 questions to get it out.

With no oxygen, it atrophies and disintegrates.
