Two Sides to Talk Filibuster Reform
Conservative Alert!!!

March 21, 2005

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has invited Democrat Harry Reid to a meeting to reconcile differences on the judicial nomination process.

The Senate fight over the president's judicial nominees is headed for a showdown.

Majority Leader Bill Frist has floated the idea of a congressional rule change to overcome Democrat-led filibusters of some of President Bush's socially conservative nominees. Minority Leader Harry Reid has countered that if that happens, he and his party will shut down the legislative process.

Now Frist is inviting Reid to meet after the Easter recess to hash out a much-needed repair of the process, amid news that some Democrats might be reconsidering their filibuster strategy.

Kay Daly, president of the Coalition for a Fair Judiciary, said Frist is taking a measured approach to the crisis.

"It's a very reasonable offer that Frist makes," she said. "But there is just no way that Reid is going to be allowed to accept it by some of these radical left-wing groups."

1. forgot to mention that Reid is supposed to be on a Middle East tour
for ten days ...

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., departed Friday for a 10-day trip to the Middle East where he planned to get a first-hand look at American involvement in the region.

"This is a critical time for the peace process in the Middle East, and for democratic change in several other nations. Many of the developments hang tenuously in the balance," Reid said in a statement.

"It's only appropriate for the Senate to be fully engaged at this time and express the full commitment and support of the United States," he said.

Reid's office said he would travel with six other senators to the Middle East and "several emerging democracies." A Reid spokesman declined to say whether the delegation would venture into Iraq.

3. Make it End!!!!!!!!! arg.... "Filibuster" reform?
arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Somehow during the reign of Senator No (Helms) - fillibusters weren't a problem.... but now? oh Please. These folks will be the first to use fillibusters (again) when they lose the senate. Make it stop!!!! Please!!!!!!!!

okay this may read like an over-reaction - but I think it is a last straw to a couple of weeks of amazingly awful actions coming from the republicans in congress. They are supposed to go on a two week break... GO folks GO get out of DC - and give us a little relief from news induced acid reflux for a couple of weeks....

lose power.

I think they know the system is now irretrievably rigged and they can act with impunity.

6. I thnk you are correct - but I think they are wrong
indeed due to their arrogance in believing that they can act with impunity... the pace with which they overstep on issue after issue... makes it more and more likely that they create such a big backlash that a bit of vote rigging here and there will not be able to save them.

Why am I not surprised? The big, bad GOP huffs and puffs and blows off a lot of hot air, and now a bunch of Democrats are ready to capitulate. How the hell is Reid supposed to negotiate with Frist if Democratic senators are already talking about surrendering?

10. More of the philosophy
"what's mine is mine, what's yours is negotiable."
Does anyone think for one minute this administration
or the so called leadership in Congress is willing to
negotiate any of their advantages? Enough is enough.
If you can't follow the rules, leave the game.
