The Schiavo case and Health Care in the United States of America |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 04:10 AM by V. Kid
So I've been thinking watching this case that it's pretty sad. Personally I believe she should be kept on life support, but that's a subject for another thread regardless of ones views on it. My concern in this, and while I'm not privy to the financial situation of Terry Shiavo's family, I find it absolutely appalling that the Republican Party and their allies are whoring this story to no end.
They always claim to believe in a right to life, they always claim to believe in the sanctity of life. Yet when it comes right down to it, this is a bunch of crap. A political slight of hand they use to fool the simple minded while they ignore real political issues that plague the country. So if they really care about the right to life, how about the right to a decent life, how about the right to live?
To connect this back to my title and the original intent of this thread how is it that these folks can be serious about saving this woman’s life and yet do nothing to help the average American without health insurance? (I know it's because their in the pockets of big pharmaceutical, and health care companies and could care less.) How is it that they are so against using stem cells that are going to be thrown away, for research, that while it may not help this woman, will most definitely help others?
Anyhow this political slight of hand annoys me, and is quite disgusting. Seeing Tom DeLay pretend to actually care about this woman, and then considering the fact that there are plenty of other people suffering in the US who have no access to health care or are continuously declaring bankruptcy just to stay alive is astounding. I mean to dismiss other health care system ideas, such as single payer as 'socialistic', or even Kerry's plan that would've covered way more people as un-workable is extremely callous and disgusting. Then again those two things are usually orders of the day for this group.
BTW where have the Dems been on this issue? I know that they’ve sort of hidden themselves, not wanting to raise the ire of these single issue crusaders (pun intended), nonetheless they’ve stated themselves that they want to make this into a political issue. Perhaps the Dems ought to consider taking something from this of a political nature---the need for proper Health Care!

1. If her will is not clear you can't decide for her. |

I'm not so in common with the US Health Care. So my first question is who pays for here treatment? How long would this treatment be for homeless? 15 years?
If she made her will clear she still has the right to revoke but she can't.

2. I'm not really talking about that though... |

...I'm sort of talking about the lack of health care in the United States, and the wider ramifications of that for people who don't have health care. How many other Terry Schiavo like cases are there in the country? And how many of them don't have health care? And why is it that most of the politicians will latch on to this case to keep her alive, yet they won't do anything to keep other people alive, and improve the general state of Health Care in the country? I think it's quite disgusting that they'll use her case for political gain while ignoring another issue---Health Care, that to me seems quite closely connected, and quite neglected.
