I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sick to death of the Schiavo |

threads and the continued occupation of our collective minds upon this issue. It should be personal, within the family and out of the media. Someone, please, someone, stand up and make it STOP!
I also believe this issue should not be occupying so much space here on DU. It is criminal.

2. It SHOULD have been a private issue, but it didn't remain so. |
|
The minute Congress got involved, it became a bigger issue. I wish it had remained private, sane, and civil. I wish that Mrs. Schiavo's wishes, as determined in court several times, could have been carried out in quiet peace and dignity. Unfortunately, that's not how it played out. The extended reach of our executive and legislative branches is news. The protests are news. The implications beyond Mrs. Schiavo herself are news.
I understand being tired of the topic. I do not understand calling discussion of it "criminal."

right along with MSM. Sad commentary for us. I'm going along as of this point with many others, I'm going to start deleting, ignoring every thread. I just don't want to hear any more about it all.
Heddi put up a wonderful post about the science behind this all and I thank her for it, she helped me to find some peace.
on edit:
I also have personal experience with a close family member being put on the tube. It was a nightmare that ripped our family apart forever.

6. But that will pass, probably soon after she does. |
|
It's foremost in people's minds; it's not so unusual to want to talk about it.
I felt the same way about the Michael Jackson threads, but they too passed.

|
there were very few, in fact.

10. They were allllllll over the Lounge. |
|
Which is where they belonged, in my opinion, but it got really tiresome. What's different here is that there are actual issues of concern to the citizenry at play with the Schiavo case.

3. I'm beginning to think that we should counter this whole travesty |
|
by focusing on why and how the Congress and the President AND the media PUT this nation in this situation over the past week.
It is very clear that the wingnuts are going to continue manufacturing stories without substantiation, that they plan to martyr this woman, that they intend on branding Democrats as 'murderers". .. it's all part of the blueprint plan here.
If we are going to effectively combat this, we might think about focusing on how our government's handling of this matter has forced millions of American families to have to look for ways to support their own rights - rights that have always been honored and respected in state statutes. And we should hold those congressional leaders, and this president, responsible for creating this problem in a mad grab for power.

If we have to keep it up can we just have one long continuing thread as in the past on other more important issues. You know, Thread 1, 2, 3 and so on and so forth.
Mods could you step up on this or is it totally out of control?
Oh, and by the way, welcome to DU, with reservation.

but I think maybe it's aimed in the wrong direction. Folks here are just reacting to the balls-out media feeding frenzy--it's hard to expect them not to. It's a little like driving past a gruesome car-wreck--who can resist a little rubbernecking? We're just wired that way. I'd suggest maybe ignoring the Schiavo threads if you hate them so much, except that I think you'd be missing out on the implosion of the Christian right/neocon coalition, and that would be a shame--kind of like missing Halley's comet or something.
Thanks for the welcome. I meant no disrespect.

17. I confess; I don't even know the basics |
|
Something is happening in her regard. I don't have a clue what it is. I know the case from years past, but nothing about any recent developments. I turn the channel instantly, just like when Bush's image or voice is imminent. There is something about the picture they show of her that creeps me out, and I fail to detect any great political significance that pits our side against the GOP. Nothing longterm significant, anyway. Nothing that will be a factor in 2006 or 2008. And I have not opened a single thread other than this one.
