What's your opinion: Shrubby being out of the country
helped or hurt him dealing with all the shit flying?

At one point I was thinking that all of this was well orchestrated, in that the lying/Tenet/Niger relevations came out while he was in Africa.

Now I don't know.

I think being overseas hurt him a lot more, because he can't control those journalists as much as he controls the press here.

What say you?

5. I think it was better he was in Africa
It sure did eff up his big photo ops and his "compassionate Conservitism" with all the blacks, didn't it? He was counting on that good caring image to win the black vote here. I am happy as hell it backfired in that bigot's face. He makes me sick with his phony self. He is a user and a loser,IMHO.

6. Sorry.
All I can think of is,
"SOMEBODY PLEASE KEEP HIM AND DON'T LET HIM COME BACK. OFFER HIM A COMPLETE DICTATORSHIP, THAT'S WHAT HE WANTS, PLEASE KEEP HIM!!"

And then I think of that poor country, and hope by coming back, Bush will do them less damage.....but HE WILL DO US MORE. aaaarrgh.

7. I think he's lost control of the media now
and he is going to have to have a real, unscripted press conference and answer questions now, or he will be seen as a coward hiding from questions. This will be a really interesting week.

13. "he is going to have to have a real, unscripted press conference " LOL
He is not capable of stringing 5 coherent sentences or thoughts
together & will most likely walk away from the mics or breakdown
in front of the cameras if he has to have a unscripted press conference.

8. This has to be the worst getaway since the Apple Dumpling Gang

Bush's Africa trip is a horror of bombs and circumstances. Everything's coming together RIGHT NOW, and I don't think they were expecting it.

HEY! Remember how Bush and his scum-sucking buddies like to talk about how everyone in the White House is loyal and nobody talks to the press and all this personal leadership?!?!

WELL THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU, GEORGE!

9. My thinking mirrors yours
At first I thought, Gee, Rove really worked that out well...but now I think it hurts * because reporters in foreign countries don't care if their questions make * uncomfortable, & * can't do a "Saddam bad" press conference (while billing it as an answering questions about the SOTU lie press conference) because he's not where all of the compliant stenographers are.

11. the timing was orchestrated
the president leaves the country...

he gets alot of good press about helping out "those poor people in africa"...

but then again noone cares about africa so maybe they're not paying attention...

if he had been in the states he might have been forced to make a public statement or come before an unruly press corp...

the story breaks late in the week and peaks by the weekend when stories traditionally get buried...

tenet's move was the most obviously manipulated aspect of the whole affair and unless the washington post story on sunday breaks it open again it looks like bush will get away with treason again.

he has total control over the journalists in africa travelling with him.

12. Good question.
My husband said something interesting this morning. He believes that the Bush White House has lost direction, that everything is falling apart around them and they don't know what to do get a grip on what's happening. In other words, nothing is going the way it was supposed to and they don't know what to do. He seems to be spending less and less time in Washington so he doesn't have to confront these issues.

14. Bush 1 Did The Same Thing
The constant vacations and absence from Washington DC is one of the reasons for Bush Sr.'s loss I think. Everyone noticed that he was always on that damn fishing boat in Kennybunkport, Maine (sp?).

15. Shows ya what happens when two elephants start "enjoying" themselves.
I think it was quite merciful that he was out of the country - for many reasons. Wish he'd just stay out! But I think you're correct - it's harder to control things when you're far away. And by now, there may be SO MUCH out of control that they can't put the genie back in the bottle.

Besides, I suspect they've had it so cushy for so long they just assume everybody will snap to and begin anew to adore the emperor's new clothes and behave themselves. Things are so much easier to control when everyone's pretty compliant to begin with. The formula has been in place for so long and worked so well I think they got fat and complacent.

But now he's got a cattle stampede on his hands - and this is a guy who recently bought a pig farm and is afraid of horses.
