Liberal Blogger wants names of pharmacies refusing to fill birth-control |
|
((Please send an email to your email list so he can get a list of the companies who would not deny Viagra or similar to unmarried men, but would deny birth control to women, even married women. Boycott!))
www.atrios.blogspot.com
Some pharmacists across the country are refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control and morning-after pills, saying that dispensing the medications violates their personal moral or religious beliefs.
The trend has opened a new front in the nation's battle over reproductive rights, sparking an intense debate over the competing rights of pharmacists to refuse to participate in something they consider repugnant and a woman's right to get medications her doctor has prescribed. It has also triggered pitched political battles in statehouses across the nation as politicians seek to pass laws either to protect pharmacists from being penalized -- or force them to carry out their duties.
Please send me the names and place of business and business numbers of pharmacists who refuse to prescribe such things as birth control.
They have rights, and so do we.

This sort of thing cannot be tolerated. These people shouldn't be pharmacists if they refuse to dispense prescribed medications.

3. A pharmacist has no "right" to refuse a valid prescription |
|
what is this crap about "balancing rights"?
So a scientologist pharmacist could refuse to fill anti-depressant scripts?

8. Louisiana is one of the states that passed |

a "Pharmacist's Conscience Clause," which allows them to do this. Now imagine South Louisiana, where 99% of the pharmacists are Catholic, and you see the problem.
According to another thread here on DU, Michigan GOPers are pusing thru their legislature a law which will allow DOCTORS and other healthcare-personnel to refuse the TREAT people to whom they object on RELIGIOUS grounds....think Gay, Jews, Moslems. They are framing it in religious-rights spin.

Many people are asked or expected to do things in their job they don't believe in. Happens all the time unfortunatly.
Imagine what a great world this would be if we could all pick and choose the parts of jobs that we could do without moral objection...

I think a pharmacist who refuses to fill ANY prescription should lose his/her license. A DOCTOR decides if the prescription should be filled, not a pharmacist.

A pharmacist is not licensed to practice medicine. Birth control pills can be and are used to treat medical conditions as well as to prevent pregnancy.
