Kind of like Phyllis Schlafly's son
The children of the nutcases know them better than anyone else, and know exactly why we should be afraid of them. :)

13. Her now openly gay son
His name is John (?), I believe. But it's old news- he was outed almost 15 years ago. For a while she'd disowned him, but I think they've probably mended fences. I think he even- somehow- works for her hateful organization these days.

At one point, when the 2 were on the outs, he would speak out against her brand of hate. But he seems to have joined the Self-Haters Club too.

2. Typical.
What came first-- the religious zealot or the gay son? Did the religious zealot make the son gay or did the gay son make Terry a religious zealot?

4. FAMILY VALUES MY ASS RANDALL TERRY!!
A few years back, Randall Terry divorced his wife, Cindy -- who once said her husband was touched by the divine -- and married a much younger woman. (Terry’s ex barely speaks to him anymore.) Their four children say they still love their father but the relationship has frayed. Terry recently barred one of his adopted teen-age daughters from his house after she got pregnant out of wedlock for the second time. Another adopted daughter also became pregnant as a teen-ager and later converted to Islam, a religion Terry has described as composed of “murderers” and “terrorists.” (The couple’s lone biological child, a daughter, is in college.)

Why is it people like him have followers and claim he is devine when he clearly is a terrible husband and father?

27. Which one of them will believe it though?
Terry will just deny the whole claims against him being a bad husband and father. Doesn't he have a church where if you were once divorced you aren't welcome there? Interesting how he's there. :eyes: Randall Terry to them is like Justin Timberlake is to *NSync. He sucks but they'd never kick him out cause they need him for their cause.

40. Yeah, and he doesn't know his Bible very well either.
When he says "The Bible," Randall notes, "doesn’t condemn divorce, but it does condemn homosexuality."

WRONG.

Malachi 2:16a: "I hate divorce, says the Lord God of Israel."

Matthew 19:9: Jesus said, "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

There are more.

7. Randall Terry is one creepy bastard.
He told his son, "I’m going to be at your funeral, you’ll be dead by 40." He published a letter attacking his son as a liar from a disturbed background. Swell.

And Randall claims that the Bible doesn't condemn divorce but does homosexuality. Actually, Jesus pointedly and directly condemns divorce, but if Jesus had anything to say about homosexuality, it isn't recorded in the scriptures.

And I still haven't cooled off. When his *cough* father asked him why he never confided in him...

"Jamiel hikes his eyebrows as he recalls the conversation. “I told him: "Dad, how was I supposed to tell you? Look at who you are.”"

It's a miracle this kid didn't kill himself, and you know, I bet Terry wishes he had.

16. Now this is interesting
Randall, though, was sweetly oblivious. He played a mean guitar and piano, and smoked bodacious amounts of herb. He was going to be a rock ’n’ roll star.

So, here we have a failed rock star who did a lot of drugs and went crazy with a fucked up idea of God and started leading a fanatical murderous cult.

Now why does that sound familiar?

I was living in Vermont when terry was there, he didn't exactly get a warm welcome. As I recall, not even the Vermonters who were opposed to civil unions wanted anything to do with him.

22. Well, this is kind of close to that
Matthew 6

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

So it definitely refers to hypocrites praying in the streets, and non-hypocrites being "in the closet", just in a slightly different context

18. All you have to do is read the article...
And you come away with the impression that at very few times was that not a dysfunctional family unit, at its core.

I found the revelations regarding Randall Terry's past and the ingestion of cheesy comestibles very interesting. Very illustrative. I have known people like that in the past. Now, I just avoid them actively.

I hope the son finds the happiness, peace and personal comfort he needs and deserves. I have a feeling he has earned that the hard way.

28. Terry's daughter is also disowned
I saw on interview of both the son and daughter on tv the other day. The daughter was pregnant out of wedlock (she miscarried a few months into it) and Terry the upstanding family values man, kicked her out of the family along with the son.

What a bastard, and how can anyone support him knowing the way he treats his own family.
