2. Dear Joe, I confess that our judicial system could be improved. |
|
I would like to somehow destroy the influence of money and politics on that branch of our government. Moreover, I would like to punish all those who abuse that branch of government.
However, without that branch of government,...the one that at least has the responsibility of ensuring that a "rule of law" holds together this nation of ours,...no matter how imperfectly,...this nation and the experiment of "democracy" for which it stands,...would FAIL and FALL.

Please provide evidence that money and politics influence our judiciary. Moreover, identify the judges that are abusing that branch of government, and specify the punishment you think they should receive.
Thank you very much for your answers.

every time there's a dispute among family members.
What difference does the law make anyway?

I keep seeing it on DU - but no one seems to be able to suggest an alternative.

7. You don't need a "legal ground" to change a law |
|
all you need is the votes in the legislature.

and we will see what happens next year when the legislature meets again. It is too late for anything this year. Our legislature has been too busy on more mundane matters.
I am sure that there will be some Meetups about this.

that determined this outcome, which laws do you think should be changed?
Can you name even one?

23. This is what your thread is all about.. |
|
To those who feel the law should not decide the Schiavo case because you don't like the rulings, what system do you suggest we Americans use to resolve such disputes?
My reply was to change the law. Or do you find that concept disturbing? Surely you don't advocate that people take the law into their own hands! Or do you assume that everyone that disagrees with Judge Greer's ruling on the Schiavo, or other domestic dispute cases, is an advocate of vigilante justice?
I will remind you of what you have posted about respecting the law the day you find a law that you don't like. And I will also remind you that if you don't like a particular law, that you should get together with other like minded citizens and try to change it.

I don't know why that's such a challenge for you.

32. Yes. The "legal issue", if any, really, was guardianship. |
|
The parents thought they should call the shots instead of Michael. Spouses and children are the most immediate family and make these decisions; if the person is not married the parents (if living) decide. The Schindlers didn't like the way Michael handled things and they wanted to take over.

The law did decide it already. It is just that the right wing does not like what the law said, so they are calling it judicial failure. It is scary stuff.

That's all this whole thing was about. If it weren't, they wouldn't be upsetting the lives of the other patients and families. The fact that they're out there with bullhorns tells me that it's all about the attention and nothing more.
or should it be court orders? I don't think lawsuit is the right word.
