2. They're On "Vacation"...
I kinda break the group I see down three ways...

1.) The media and their gadlies...the largest group there...people interviewing people interviewing people. Each news channel has a tent set up with at least a dozen people staffing the thing around the clock...and then there are the networks and foreign news agencies.

2.) Paid Religious & Political Hacks. Randall Terry, Mahoney and the other charlatans who use these events...wrap themselves up in a cross and a flag and beg for donations. They also have the back-channel funds from Scaiffe and Coors and a wide range of "foundations" that are part of the long-established and well-funded GOOP propaganda machine. Be assured many of these folks played Cubans when Elian was going on, then angry voters two years later and now as holier-than-thous. As long as they get the check, they don't care.

This group also includes a large fundie network that I call "rapid deployment troops"...these are people connected with Dobson and Bob Jones and others that travel around the country to protests and other events...thanks to the fine folks who dial in those dollars.

3.) The curious. I also group the few, and I mean, few, who are there sincerely to offer their support to Mrs. Schaivo, the staff of the hospice and Mr. Schaivo and his family. These people aren't outragous and most are locals sucked up in a circus not of their own making.

One day we'll learn the slimy financial connections between large coporates Repugnicans and their fundie buddies...an interesting relationship as one diverts attention from the real motives of the other.
