Why can't I edit my post after a certain amount of time?

Why the brief time limit on editing? Sometimes you change what you want to say later! Reflection is good!

7. I agree, many a time I post something after just waking up and

come back after a couple of hours and a pot of coffee later to a plethora of insulted posters. I'm not very explanatory in the morning and tend to just make it quick. I'd like to edit to make it more understandable but have passed the editing time.

9. Because after a day of our large membership responding

to a controversial post it makes for a confusing thread if suddenly the controversial post disappears.
Look on the bright side...if you're debating face-to-face and verbally you don't get to edit at all.
