Tom DeLay has NOT ruled out violence against judges |
|
Yesterday, when Tom Delay said the "time will come" for the people (judges) "responsible" for Terri Schiavo's death "will pay," Sen. Ted Kennedy - a man who knows a little about political violence - said that, in the wake of the murder of a judge in Atlanta and the murder of a judge's family in Illinois, Delay should clarify his remarks to make it clear he was NOT advocating violence.
Delay has - quite noticibly - NOT issued such a clarifying statement.
To conservatives, who practice a "culture of revenge" by issuing threats and promising retribution anytime something doesn't go their way, this silence will be significant.
Remember when Wayne LaPierre called federal agents "jack booted thugs"? A little while later a conservative wacko blew up the Murrah building in OKC.
Words have consequences, and you can bet conservatives know this better than anyone.

2. It's called "dog whistle" politics |
|
Ordinary, everyday people might hear what Delay says and remark about the unfortunate choice of words. They surely won't notice any follow-up. Well, maybe they'll notice that someone said Delay should have moderated his remarks a little bit, and they'll simply assume that he did.
But the people Delay was really talking to, in the same manner as a dog whistle pitched too high for human ears to register, will hear his message loudly and clearly, and take the appropriate action.

For how long can you use a language that glorifies violence and "toughness" and nobody ever act on it? Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

Remember when G. Gordon Liddy advocated for "head shots" on ATF officials in the 1990's? God, the right-wing is littered with blood-thirsty nut cases.

6. I read about that in Alterman's 'What Liberal Media?' |
|
Alterman was going after Paul Weyrich for not chastising G. Gordon Liddy for this comment.
It's sad, Paul Weyrich calls Islam a religion of violence yet he would not go after Liddy when he also called for violence.

Also, remember when Jesse Helms made the comment that President Clinton would not be safe if he visited his state?

11. The whole Terri Schiavo was about this moment. |
|
Those thugs did not care one bit for the woman. They are only interested in bringing the religious nuts out of the woodwork to support their effort to make the judicial branch of our government beholden to the wishes of the bushtapo and the neo-cons.
They already control the executive and legislative branches of our government. If the conquer the judicial branch as well, then there will be no legal action taken against even the most blatant of criminal actions committed against our nation by these scoundrels.
