OK you up-to-date Catholics
Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 12:56 PM by Feeney2
As someone who dropped out of the church years ago, I have read in the past that the church would be electing an Hispanic next to be Pope. It is the largest and fastest growing Catholic group in the world. Is this correct? Or are we looking at a return to an Italian. There are politics involved. Anyone have any ideas?

There have been Spanish popes,I believe, but not yet a Latino pope. They are one of the largest groups of Catholics so it would make sense that one would become Pontiff.

6. Africa and Asia represent the areas off fastest growth.
I believe it will be Cardinal Arinze.

8. Arinze seems the best of the candidates...

but he's something of a favourite to succeed JPII, which may weigh against him...after all, they say "Go into the conclave a Pope, leave it a cardinal".

10. True.
It doesn't hurt, though, that he's the Pope's best friend.
