Oscar Meyer: Fully programmed- |
|
One of my third grade students was asking which of the four music groups on the back of her Oscar Meyer lunchable box I liked the best, "because they are all Christian groups," she added.
Another of my students is wearing her "Darwin Lied" T shirt. Today I asked her what that meant. She giggled in embarrassment and said, "Jesus died for your sins." I just said, "Oh. o.k."

2. Did you ever see a movie called |
|
"A Boy and His Dog?" I often picture the landscape in that movie.

3. Sometimes These Are Our Best Converts... |
|
My daughter's best friend comes from a real wingnut/fundie family. She's been under "god's law" and grew up with the buzzwords and talking points of the right wing...and she had no idea of what they meant and why she was saying them.
That was before she started to walk outside the house and meet the real world. Last year she was among a group that usually got together at my house...almost all kids from similar families...and we'd talk about the election, the issues and how all this affected them. This turned into a regular right wing talking point session where we'd find another lie or myth and shoot it to hell. Soon I just sat back as the group would find hypocrisies this regime and their religious zealots were trying to force down their throats. It was a very uplifting experience.
There are a lot of people who are blissfully unaware as they've grown up in a popular culture that glofies self gratification and subserviance to organized religion and the government. The decades long mantra of the left being athiests and commies and baby killers and so on have taken their toll...even on the brightest. Once they step away and are given the chance to breath and think freely, the transformation could mean great things for this country.
Or at least I still hold some hope...
