Is Bush Dumb or Intellectually Lazy |
|
So I thought I'd ask everyone, do you think Bush is dumb, or intellectually lazy?
His use (or lack therefof) of the English language is legendary as we all know. And we all know that he has bragged about being a C student.
I'm not sure if I'd call him dumb, but it's ocurred to me a lot lately that Bush is definitely intellecutally lazy. He is uncurious about the world around him, and he doesn't appear to seek out knowledge or information like a POTUS should.
He made sure that White House staffer knew he likes to go to bed by 9 PM and that he's not a big reader, and he bragged about not reading Condi Rice's article in Foreign Affairs.
These are all dangerous qualities/attributes to have in a POTUS.
So DUers, what say you? Is he dumb? Intellectually lazy, or both? :)

the question is, is he lazier than he is dumb? I'd say yes.
If he was half as smart as the thinks he is, he'd still be twice as smart as he really is.

I see it more as he is the tool that is used by others with this folksy/boneheaded demeanor and I don't think it's much of a stretch. I think what passes for smarts may be brute beast cleverness.

7. Ask him to spell "intellectually"! |
|
Nah...never mind! I'm going with dumb based on my own observations of the guy. Intelligent people always seem to try to learn more. If there's one common trait among 'em that would be it.
Shrub learned how to hold his pee and feed himself and then he...just...gave...up.

He occasionally makes sounds that are similar to speech, so I'm not sure about dumb. Stupid, ignorant & slimy are accurate though. http://www.kliljedahl.net

And not to be ruled out are shrewdly selfish, socially insensitive, emotionally juvenile, spiritually shallow, and horrendously dishonest.

12. Bush is, IMHO not dumb but probably about average intelligence. |
|
He's also dyslexic, (which runs in families, look at pop) and he has used the perception that he is below average to his advantage many many times.
Intellectually lazy pretty well describes it.

dyslexic, and a vicious, vindictive, grudge-holding motherfucker. He is shrewd and clever...not dumb.
But he likes to Play Dumb to cozy up to the jes' folks he needs from to time.
He's also probably got some kind of degenerative disorder, based on his old debate/public speaking history and what he's shown us in the last 5 years.

I think he and the elite rulers hold "we the people" in such disdain and have such a low opinion of us, that they just don't care what we think and therefore they don't need to worry about what they say or do.

His "intellectual" state really makes no difference since he is narcissistic. A non-intellectual with a heart could touch others in a positive way. An intellectual scholar with a hard heart could destroy others.

22. I think the best way to describe it is... |
|
Intellectually Lazy to the point of causing stupidity through secondary actions caused those potentials to become permanently closed.
He acts as though he were a malicious child, those types never grow up, he's chosen to not learn because he felt that he was superior by birth, that he need not learn because he would always be protected from his blunders because of his family. He's never had anything to disprove that either. He was effectively elected in his father's name, he has been protected by the media and congress. Truly, the pope himself may have been correct when he offhandedly remarked that Bush could be the AntiChrist may not be that far from the truth, I wouldn't put it past someone with the kind of cruelty that is he 'rumored' to have applied when he was young that the idea of being the antichrist appeals to him, after all, if you've got the kind of morals that this administrations has, being the antichrist at least means a good ruling position in hell.

I used to think he was playing dumb. But I really believe now that he actually IS dumb. And he is intellectually lazy as well.
Add his insufferable arrogance to the mix and no wonder most of us have to switch off the set or change the channel.

But he is dumb because he intellectually lazy. Due to the fact that Bush never really had to do any work in his life, because he was born with a silver spoon rammed up his ass, and got everything he wanted for nothing. Therefore he became so lazy that he turned dumb and stop caring about what he says or does.

29. He's a manipulator and incurious. |
|
It's not that he's stupid. I don't know what his IQ is or what genuine skills he has. I seriously doubt he ever had to develop any skills besides a memory for grudges, shmoozing, and manipulating. It's not as though he ever had to worry about his future.
He has a trait I've also seen in a co-worker of mine who takes knee-jerk right-wing stances on most things: he simply lacks intellectual curiosity. I honestly don't believe he'd care if he saw nothing but Kennebunkport and Crawford, plus the occasional golf course or ballpark, for the rest of his life. Have you ever heard of him taking an interest in paintings, films, theater, a range of sports, music, or novels? Have you ever heard of him really listening to people with different viewpoints? Yeah, I know that he claims to be bipartisan and patient and a listener. It's all bunk. He just wants yes-men and women, the compliant wife, the defeated enemy, the affront paid back.
He's manipulative and actually appears to be good at picking out the sore spots of others and exploiting them. He's also given to projecting his own sins onto others (i.e., trying to paint John Kerry as dismissive of our allies). He generally delegates the dirty deeds, though, so the lapdog press generally buys the myth of Bush as a nice, affable guy.
