Vegetarian grocery checker refuses to sell meat. |
|
Is that what's coming next? If a pharmacist can refuse to sell birth control, why not?
How about: Islamic Sears Employee refuses to sell electric shavers?
Or: Republican postman refuses to deliver Democratic literature to people on his route?
Or: Box office girl refuses to sell adults any tickets to R-rated movies, citing moral objections.
Or: Morman cafe waitress refuses to sell coffee to patrons.
Do your frickin' jobs, people, or pick a different line of work.

I want to get a job where I can inflict my religion on people.

4. It's within a company's rights to fire an employee who refuses... |
|
...to perform their job, assuming no laws are being violated. The companies employing those pharmacists can fire them. Companies like WalMart have decided to stop selling birth control instead.

|
Does Target have a pharmacy? I usually go to CVS, but I'm not getting birth control. I don't get many prescriptions, and when I do, they are usually from my dentist for antibiotics and codeine after a root canal.

6. They don't want another line of work |

Some activists get jobs like this with the intent of denying some product or service on others. It's their way of getting their pet issue into the public eye.
And it works, doesn't it.

10. The deeper question is about imperfect fits. |
|
Very few people agree 100.0% with their job requirements. The crux of this issue lies in the way we handle the delta.
What are the deal-breakers?
I don't agree with how my company's product is specifically being used, but I like the general technology, my coworkers, and the compensation. This is an imperfect fit, strictly speaking. And I do not consider the delta to be a deal-breaker.
But people, especially when emotions are inflamed, can choose their deal-breakers.
This is really a management issue. If management is willing to tolerate employees altering the business plan based on religious beliefs, then management has made its choice.
But in this economy, I don't think any smart managers would do that.

is EXACTLY it. Thank you. :applause: The same with doctors who don't want to treat a patient based on their own personal "beliefs". Town clerks in Vermont were terminated for not issuing civil union licenses. Bravo Vermont! The employees you mentioned would be canned for not doing their jobs. So should these asses. They might want to try the field of faith healing.

Librarians don't have to carry books about subjects they disagree with etc.
I hope a lot of people get fired. They can go to California and pick strawberries, seeing as those are such highly desired jobs that Americans are desperate to get and all.

|
They didn't used to sell meat until they expanded and moved. Several checkers quit because they were unwilling to sell meat. That, of course, is the ethical thing to do if you are not willing to perform certain aspects of a job (hello, Pharmacists for "Life"...).
