History of liberalism over the past 500 yrs, liberalism has succeeded, liberalism turns into socialism, conservatism turms into nationalism ... VERY interesting We are seeing the end of liberalism, liberalism & conservatism turn into each other but there hasn't been a synthesis,
Democracy and Populism: Fear and Hatred John Lukacs
Description: Historian John Lukacs writes about the current state of American democracy in "Democracy and Populism: Fear and Hatred." In it, Mr. Lukacs warns that the American democratic system has become vulnerable to demagoguery because of what he calls the state of our current populism. The author writes that this devolution is evident in such things as popular sentiment being the new substitute for what was once public opinion - and propaganda and infotainment over knowledge and history.
Author Bio: John Lukacs has authored more than twenty books, including "Five Days in London, May 1940" and "The New Republic." He was the chair of the history department at Chestnut Hill College from 1947 - 1994. He has served as a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Princeton, and at the University of Budapest in his native Hungary.

The guy's a historian, he has the ability to look at things through a long view. He said that liberalism has been predominent throughout the last 500 years but that it is in its descent now, the Modern Age is coming to an end. He don't have any ideas as to what is comeing next.
Nationalism is agressive and based on hate and fear whereas Patriotism is defensive and based on love.
It was very interesting and thought-provoking. Take a look at his book if you get a chance.

He makes a lot of sense, although he uses a ton of words to get anything said. Unfortunately, the lawn still needs mowing, so I had to quit in the middle. I hope it got better further on.
