Some really great quotes I ran across...Enjoy |
|
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you a car. - Laurence J. Peter
Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich. - Napoleon
Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech. - Benjamin Franklin
History is full of people who out of fear, or ignorance, or lust for power has destroyed knowledge of immeasurable value which truly belongs to us all. We must not let it happen again. - Carl Sagan
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. - Bertrand Russell
We must take back our nation from all the people who think that anything that offends them should be removed. - Unknown American
Too many people are only willing to defend rights that are personally important to them. It's selfish ignorance, and it's exactly why totalitarian governments are able to get away with trampling on people. Freedom does not mean freedom just for the things I think I should be able to do. Freedom is for all of us. If people will not speak up for other people's rights, there will come a day when they will lose their own. - Tony Lawrence
The kind of man who wants the government to adopt and enforce his ideas is always the kind of man whose ideas are idiotic. - H.L. Mencken
A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government. - Edward Abbey
We, the people, are the rightful masters of both congress and the courts - not to overthrow the constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the constitution. - Abe Lincoln
China has no income tax, no unemployment and not a single soldier outside its borders. - Chou En Lai

7. That was stated by Yeats this way: |
|
The best lack all conviction while The worst are full of passionate intensity.
I like Yeats's version better even though I am a great admirer of Russell.

8. Did you see Mario Cuomo on Bill Maher? |
|
He was comparing Lincoln to shrub and their religious beliefs. He said Lincoln talked to God, while God talks to bush (and tells him to run for president). LOL

10. I like H.L. Mencken's quote the best.... |
|
also by Mencken:
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
