Bill would allow "intelligent design" for science classes

By MARTHA RAFFAELE
The Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. - School boards would be allowed to require the teaching of "intelligent design" - a concept that is the subject of a federal lawsuit in Pennsylvania - as part of science lessons under a bill that has been introduced in the state House of Representatives.

It's unclear whether the measure, sponsored by only a dozen lawmakers, will go anywhere as the Legislature prepares for state budget negotiations with Gov. Ed Rendell over the next two months.

Rep. Thomas C. Creighton, the prime sponsor, said it would encourage school boards to broaden the discussion of biological origins to include concepts besides the theory of evolution. Intelligent design holds that the universe must have been created by an unspecified guiding force because it is so complex.

"To say we're smart enough to know that there isn't an intelligent designer, we're being very arrogant in our thinking," said Creighton, R-Lancaster.

Opponents argue that intelligent design is merely a secular variation of creationism, the biblical-based view that regards God as the creator of life. They say teaching it in public schools violates the separation of church and state.

1. What idiots!
Since they can't figure anything out, of course they go for this ridiculous "design".
Unfortunately, religion often shuts the mind down. Hence the anti-intellectual movements, spawned by the rapture right, throughout the ages.

2. It's simple. Offer evidence or testable predictions of the existence
of the designer.

I hope they chose to keep religious dogma out of public schools.

4. So the people who believe in science opt out of the ID lessons?
Of course not. After all, its SCIENCE so your kids have to sit there and listen to some dumbfuck take everything your kid learned about the scientific method and biology and turn it into a big joke and look for converts. Disgusting..

5. why not just can science classes all together?
oh that's right, we still need science to develop new weapons to kill and destroy and technology to spy on citizens.
I guess science is good for something after all.

7. I feel pity for our souls.
I'm sorry to any Christian DUers but i cant understand how anyone can believe in an invisible object when we can see the process of evolution and we can carbon date the earth to find out how old it is. 6,000 years my ass more like 6,000,000,000

8. Actually 3.5 billion by most est.
But it's all LIES anyway! God created the earth in 6 literal days, even before he created the sun, which is how we measure days. But I'm getting off track here . . .

10. Hey -- if they're going to shove ID down my throat
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 01:54 PM by LdyGuique
I demand equal time for all of the world's religions past and present on their own creationist theories -- afterall, the bible's genesis is "only" about 3,000 years old -- maybe the Mayans had it right -- or even the Hopi or the Navajo -- you want to give me and mine ID, give me all of it

Design an Intelligent "Comparative Creationist Theories" class
