I need help with a little non-scientific survey.
Anyone here on DU with easy access to their local phone book please do me a favor. Go to the Attorney's section of their yellow pages & look in the Landlord/Tenant Law section. What percentage of the ads/entries state "Landlords Only"?
I was shocked that 100% of the ads state "Landlords Only" & even some of the entries do.
I'm just curious if this is common everywhere.

your fees owns a home and does not rent. Tenant automatically means.. i cannot pay you $500/hr.

Look for general lawyers instead. They may do a variety of things and may be more inclined to do work on a pay scale. Sometimes lawyers even open their offices 1/2 an afternoon a week to do pro bono stuff.

Also find out if there are paralegals or L/T tribunals in your area because they may be able to give you free advice or direct you to a lawyer who will be helpful.

4. I'm not looking for myself, own my home.
There was just a LTTE in my local paper about this issue. I found it interesting & wanted to know if it was the case everywhere.

6. At least in Mo Co, you may get this help for free.
However, the Montgomery County government has a wonderful department (I can't remember the name - I think Housing and Community Affairs) that actually will help you out with tenant issues for free.

They helped me out when a rental company almost ruined my credit by neglecting to notify me they were charging me for oven cleaning, despite my completing a walk through of the property with them at move out. I only found out about the charge when I was denied a cell phone due to bad credit over year later.

I was unsuccessful fighting the rental company by myself (they are one of the largest in this area), but as a last resort I discovered this agency, went to visit them. They turned around, cited the rental company with numerous contract and practice infractions, told them to clear my account and notify the credit agencies.

Maybe other states have a similar office.

5. Seattle WA
One "landlords only", one "representing landlords and tenants" . Several other names listed but no quantifiers. Tenants in Seattle get a pretty raw deal.
