I am embarrassed to report an incident in a town I frequent with a new French restuarant.
Around the time the U.N. was debating whether or not to vote for a resolution for war against Iraq, a pro-Bush couple visited this French restaurant. Another couple seated next to them were already at their meal and speaking French.
The pro-Bush couple demanded to be relocated to another table away from the French-speakers, evidently in a ridiculous show of solidarity with Bush's overtly disrespectful remarks about France.
My party and I asked if we could be moved also -- NEXT to the French-speaking couple.
In the overall, the U.S. is a brat of a culture and has no business knocking more mature nations in Europe.
You raise a damn good point.

5. Sad to say, yes. But many Kerry-Edwards voters -- |

- LIKED it that John and Teresa spoke French.
Chirac rightly thinks Bush is an idiot. But I think he and Kerry would have appreciated each other very much.

Funny that this has come up. I was speaking with a group of people recently and we were discussing politics. They all claimed to be conservatives but with most ,(those that I know well), I am aware that their views are more liberal than conservative. It is either ignorance or fear of admitting that they are liberal. Anyway, the topic came up about Europe, and why they are so anti Bush. We discussed for a period of time and I was aghast when I mentioned some minutia about different countries. Like for instance the location of certain countries on the map and their political philosophy. I could not believe these people were so ill informed geographically as well as politically. I was also reminded that the guy in the WH is probably in the same boat and would be hard pressed to identify the locations of certain countries let alone name them.

6. I have that impression of Dubya, too. |

He not only disrespects older cultures, but doesn't even know where they are on a map.
And probably doesn't care!

3. Actually most of my forefathers were Native Americans... |

Europeans throughout history, with their doctrine of Manifest Destiny, have brought a lot of it upon themselves.
We are a global community now. Time to live and let live I say.

The reason that the European political systems are hated by the right is that the Europeans can't be hated for being/looking different.
