There is a lot more at the Randi Rhodes message board about XM
I tried to post the link, but it just goes to the front page. It is under General Discussion.

Thought I would mention it. I am heartbroken, and there are pages there at the board of angry people.

Looks like AOL and XM are merging, which I did not know. Then one post implies Sirius and XM might merge.

2. I'm an admin and moderator at Randi's board
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 12:36 AM by KyndCulture
Yes there are PAGES of angry people. Right after the word of the deal with XM and AOL came down today, AAR also censored our message board. There has never been a filter of any word that couldn't be said, the rules state as long as it is not a threat or against the law. Now we cannot say the word fuck... coincidence? I think not.

There are PAGES of angry people for very good reason. Randi's board has always been a place of free speech. Now it is not so... is it a coinidence it happened on the day of the deal, whatever the deal is? I doubt it....

it's very upsetting to her loyal listeners and her loyal posters...VERY.

7. Thanks for coming here. I am furious.
Let me get this straight....AAR censored the board after XM and AOL merger agreement?

Is that what we are facing from AAR when they move to XM? Censorship? I have noticed a little hesitancy on some parts lately.

Well by durn, the right never hesitates. They most surely do not.

I am heartbroken, and we will NOT put out another 300 on XM. Not if there is already censorship?

Is AAR being sabotaged again by being joined with AOL which is notorious for it?

I guess it was a dream that did not pan out.

10. It's too coincidental.. there's been too many little things going on
I'm just a peon volunteer, I don't work for them, but I spend most of my day on that board and I know Randi's staff pretty well.... Right after her show tonight, the board was censored. I don't like it.. it starts with one word, then there's another word, then another... pretty soon it's freeperville....

I feel for you guys with Sirius, believe me, we have a couple thousand users on our board on Sirius...that are fuming...it's gotta be the AOL thing. I don't know anything for sure because they aren't 'confirming or denying' anything... but it really does suck when so many listeners are going to be screwed.

19. XM & AOL haven't merged, they have an agreement on a joint online venture.
Big difference between a deal on a joint venture and a merger.

22. sabotaged by AOL and Clear Channel.
Doesn't Clear Channel own stock in XM radio? My prediction...CLEAR CHANNEL WILL OWN XM AND AAR WILL BE GONE. ALL of this is by design to get rid of AAR. JMCPO

30. Clear Channel no longer owns stock in XM
and they never owned any more than about 3%. This keeps getting repeated on this board and it's just plain wrong.

18. Holy Crap KC, as far as I know even Clear Channel didn't censor the board
when it ran on their servers and they had their own deal with Randi, independent of AAR. Wow. I missed that.

4. This just makes me sick
I have one month left on my Sirius subscription. I have no idea what to do now. The station out of Boulder doesn't play Randi or Malloy live, and streaming just sucks. I bought Sirius so I wouldn't have to stream AAR any more. Is there anything we can do about it? This deal is predatory and gives me a bad feeling.

5. Just looking at numbers...
... if the deal required Sirius to go away in favor of XM, then AAR just cut off, potentially, 40% of their listening audience via satellite (3.8 mil XM, 1.8 mil Sirius).

Not a good move--if they're preaching inclusiveness, they'd better show some.

11. I second that 'it gives me a bad feeling business.'
Thanks for coming here KyndCulture, and posting.

I was discussing this very thing with my hubby tonight. I told him I was not abandoning Sirius, and that the CEO of Sirius (Howard's guy) was a big DEMOCRATIC donor.

Let's see, Murdoch and his buddies control most of the newspapers, and TV news. Clear Channel controls the public airwaves; XM dominates the satellite. When was censorship (telling the hosts to back off) going to start? I believe that Randi was told to back off talking about election fraud? Could it have been by Clear Channel?

Clear Channel owned 2% of XM at one point, and had a couple of people on XM's Board. Many here feel that CC does not have any say in XM's affairs now, but I doubt that.

Sirius seems to have been committed to free speech since I have had the unit (for about 1-1/2 now). I'm sticking with Sirius for the foreseeable future, banning something really crazy happening.

12. Funny thing on Randi's show tonight...
she gave a long rant about keeping the FCC the hell outta sat. radio... and how it violates free speech when you pay for the airwaves and you get censored...

and low and behold... we're fuck-less on the board all of a sudden...

I'm crabby as you can tell. Tired from yelling "clean up on aisle 9" all night tonight trying to moderate world war III breaking out... sorry if I'm coming off pessimistic or crass.. it's been a long day for us.

I am fed up, disgusted, and with the censoring of Randi's message board....I am very suspicious of it all.

Why would they give up their Sirius listeners so easily?

I am just not turning it back on. We are very upset.

Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 11:59 AM by Garbo 2004
apparently has a profanity filter turned on for the word "fuck." So far as I know or can tell that seems to be it. There's a thread in the Happy Hour forum on the RR board that illustrates. (You'll know the thread when you see it and you'll see pages well into the thread when the filtering commenced as the fucks turn to f**ks.)

32. I sent AAR two emails and a letter by snail-mail
I'm really steamed about this. I feel like I've been kicked in the teeth by AAR, after buy Sirius specifically because they had the best coverage of AAR. I emailed Sirius too, but it's really not their decision, and they sent me a reply almost immediately, saying they'd keep AAR as long as they can. No reply from AAR.
