I'd like to think a few years in prison could rehabilitat a sex offender but unfortunately the overall track record ain't that good

My friend was hanging out with a 15 1/2 year old and he was 19 and he got drunk at a party they were at and passed out. She took advantage of this and came in and started stuff with him and he even stopped it but because she kept writing about it in her diary her Mom found out and called the cops and he was busted and convicted of second degree sexual assault and is on the Sex Offender's list until he's 45.
There are differences in those cases and that of old men stalking children and raping or kidnapping them but the law doesn't treat them any different.

3. I hate to be wishy-washy, but... |
|
Here's a scenario:
An eighteen-year-old has been dating a fifteen-year-old. They are discovered having sex. Should the eighteen-year-old spend life in prison and/or wear an ankle bracelet forever? Seems pretty ridiculous.
On the other hand, if an eighteen-year-old commits a forcible rape, or worse, victimizes a small child, I say throw away the key.
It's a matter of degree, of aggravation. If it's between two consenting parties of similar age and maturity, it's hard to justify branding somebody with a scarlet letter.

A) Sending them to prison solves nothing. There needs to be a program to help people, not to seperate them from society, just to release them back into it, prepared to commit the same crimes again.
B) I think each case should be considered seperately, based on the inmates evaluation by a professional psychologist. Some people probably should be monitored, but i'm sure there are cases where the offender would be able to function normally in society.

6. The real child sex offenders - saw a program were several of them |
|
were on TV talking about their "problem". They all agreed that they never recover. They will always have a desire for childern. Look how many of them have gotten out of jail and kidnapped some kid and killed them. Jail for life. They are incurable.
As for the 18 year olds getting caught with the 15 years old, seems there should be another name for them. Stupid would be a start, but that's another story.

7. In clear cases of predator child molestors, yes. However, there have |
|
been plenty of cases where the guy was 18 through about 22 and the girl was 16 or 17 and they had the book thrown at them.
I think that it should be decided on an individual basis, but it should always be a readily available option.

8. Depends. Child molesters yes. |
|
But a whole class of people are now called "sex offenders". One-time only date rapists, exhibitionists, etc. should not be monitored for life or punished as harshly as child molesters.
