wal-mart to match it's store's acreage with conservation acreage
just heard a guy talking about it on cnn. the talking head also said he knew the walton family PERSONALLY, and that they were very environmentally active.

in other words, i think, for all the acres that wal-mart uses in it's existing stores, many thousands, it has purchased conservation acres to match it, put aside to never be developed.

and they sure wanted us to know about it, cause it was on cnn.

1. I think they feel a bit besieged.
trying to let us know that they aren't that bad.

2. Nifty!
How much are they going to donate to replace all the local businesses and good-paying jobs they drove under?

3. Total P.R. hype ...
..... How much land and raw materials are sucked up in their endless
consumer driven orgy? How much greenhouse gas in China to make
their crap?

Expect to see "fuzzy bunny" commercials from Wall Mart, now.

4. And here I thought
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 09:13 AM by AG78
we would live, work, eat, sleep, and have sex in Wal-Mart when it owns everything. But instead, we'll live in the woods when not working, shopping, and dining at Wal-Mart.

Which would be fine by me, I'm all for a simpler way of living. But that crazy ass dream doesn't involve Wal-Mart. Bastards! Well played Walton's, well played indeed.

6. of course they do
because the law pretty much says they have to. A large percentage of big box retailers, especially in the exurban/rural areas, are built on, or next to, wetlands (where's a nice flat place for a parking lot? wetlands) which, under EPA rules, have to be replaced. So they manufacture wetlands on useless property (notice the ponds next to the driveway into the Walmart? that's a 'wetland' Google "walmart wetland" for all the times they've settled cases by building 'new' wetlands adjacent to the ones they plowed under.

7. This is a lame and transparent move my WalMart.
It does absolutely nothing toward addressing the real problems created by WalMart.
