A Salute to my Father in Law - A D-Day Veteran |
|
who landed on Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944. In August of that year he sustained severe injuries in a small town in France. He survived and lived a long and prosperous life. He died in December. I loved him dearly and enjoyed his chats about the war. He was quite a stemwinder but my favorite quote of his was:
"I wouldn't muster up a mouthful of warm spit for a republican."
God Bless Ya Dad, rest in peace!!

to bring up republicans. His children (except for my wife) are republicans but he never voted for a republican, never would and took his Democratic Party Credentials to the grave with him. I think if george bush pulled a herbert hoover, someone would be making a similar post in about 60 years about their grandfather. My wife and I are the liberal stepchildren of the family, tolerated but not messed with. A couple of my brothers in law don't even think about bringing up politics with me.

That generation is passing, they knew what it was to pass through the fire, and now they're leaving. We have our own trial now, and if we are as successful as they were, then our grandchildren will salute us also. Either way this feels like it's one of those all or notbing gambles.
