Now it's onto the energy bill.......and more welfare for the companies
In three committees, Democrats repeatedly were rebuffed in attempts to significantly alter the GOP-crafted legislation, which probably will move to a vote by the full House next week.

The Energy and Commerce Committee cleared its energy provisions by a 39-15 vote late Wednesday. Two other committees completed work on other parts of the bill earlier in the day.

The bill includes a slimmed down $8 billion tax package, mostly tax breaks for energy industry. Held down by budget constraints, it's about a third the size of the tax breaks approved two years ago in legislation that later died in the Senate.

Democrats failed in trying to strip away from the bill two of its most controversial measures: drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and giving makers of the gasoline additive MTBE a shield from lawsuits stemming from MTBE contamination of drinking water.

6. And they're real quick to turn 'em off, too
The utility companies will hardly work with you at all these days before they disconnect.

My highest has been approx $500 in December, lowest was $320 in February.
This has been going on since October.
I live in Texas--it's the fuel charges. Looking at my bill, the fuel factor for generation is what is killing me--it is 0.043414/kwh. Not sure what that is, but it's the highest portion of my bill. Avg price per kwh is 0.082.
My mom lives in Phoenix and she says her highest bill was $150.

Not sure what is going on, but everyone I know says the same thing--their bills in our area are outrageous.

On edit..looking at my billing summary--$320 is the lowest, not $350.

8. I'm in TX to and have been furious at the prices.
My neighbor's electric bill was 1/2 of mine at the height of summer last year, so we're obviously doing something wrong. We've taken measures to tighten the house up; new roof, gas dryer, etc. Do you have any gas utilities? We're still using Reliant but will be changing that soon. For comparison, my fuel factor for generation charge is 0.061079/kwh

Have you tried this website to see if you can get a better provider?

10. Ack yours is higher than mine
But I am taking this off of last months bill and not this months (I burned it in effigy). Not sure if it went up.
Reliant is my provider too.
I don't have any gas utilities. There was a major gas leak in the house and would have had to replumb the entire house so I just replaced the hot water heaters and stove to electric from gas.
I don't know what else to do--everyone says their bill is at least that high--so I don't think that it's something we are doing wrong.
My monthly utilities are no less than $650 a month (combined).
It's out of control.
Right now, the only ones in my area are Reliant and TXU.
Big choice, huh?

5. They just believe in laissez-faire style business.
Pretty soon people will have to wake up, they have done this before.
