If Frist is their best contender, I say BRING IT ON! |
|
He seems to be politically inept. This "nuclear option" nonsense comes right after his remote diagnosis of Terri Schiavo based on a videotape he saw. This is their candidate?? http://www.themoderatevoice.com/posts/1113545410.shtml

1. Their machines count the votes. |
|
Why else would Gingrich and DeLay be talking about running for president in '08.
It was Stalin who said something to the effect that "... all that matters is who counts the votes."

2. I hate to be a wet blanket, but... |

A lot of people look at Bush and say "is this the best they have?" and still he has followers who believe he is sent from heaven. It isn't about how good their candidate is anymore. It's about how stupid the candidate's followers are.

3. Bush only reelected as incumbent |
|
We saw in 2000 that Bush could not win in a fair election if all votes were counted as intended by voter.
(Yes, I know that many also feel he was not really reelected. They may be right, but so far the evidence isn't as clear cut as in 2000.)

4. Yes, and he was re-elected (as far as we know) |
|
Bush makes Frist look like Benjamin Disraeli. Hell, Homer Simpson would look competent compared to him. Yet, he has a huge wave of followers who believe that he is the second coming of Christ. We simply can't dismiss the ultraconservative politicians because they look ridiculous. There's too many people today that want them to be ridiculous, and they are willing to forgive 100% of the antics because they think that it means they're gonna get to go up in the middle of the air.

5. Its easier to be reelected |
|
I agree we cannot totally dismiss the ultraconservatives, but also keep in mind Bush was never elected as a ultraconservative. First of all, he more clearly lost in 2000. Secondly, he ran as a "compassionate conservative" and we didn't know how far to the right he would go.
Once in, it is easier to be reelected due to the advantages of the incumbent, especially during wartime. A non-incumbant from the far right would have a much harder time getting elected (but I won't say it can't happen).

6. I"ve read some rumblings about how Frist has been ineffective against Reid |
|
Plus there is the track record of senators not being able to win a race for president.
I think the next republican to run for president will be a governor, it seems to be the best way to go!
