Poll question: Do you like Jerry Springer's show in AAR?
I've been listening and listening and I cannot continue. He is obsessed with his topic Du-jour and beats it to death. Today he is ranting on about Rush the drug addict and his foul language on the radio. Enough already. I can't listen anymore!!!!!! Am I alone?

:dilemma:

1. I tune into Stephanie Miller's show for an hour
before tuning into KPFA's Morning Show.

I wasn't impressed with Springer personally, but I could see where others might like him.

2. I say "too early to tell"
but he definitely utters a lot of self-evident pleonasms. He latches onto a topic and then parrots his 5 points about it over and over and over. It seems kindalike a low-IQ show. I definitely prefered Rachel Maddow... But he may get better.

10. Part of the 'dumbing down' of America.
He parrots the officially sanctioned talking points like a good soldier, but don't look for any cutting edge news that ISN'T being reported by the corpraganda news.

12. OR cutting edge analysis.
This morning he was droning on an on about the fact that if your daughter has sex with a boy, you'll wish that he wore a condom... Ergo, teens need to receive sex education. Abstinence-only programs don't work... Blablabla. Not that I disagree, but come on Jerry you can do better than to say "the sky is blue" and end at that.

16. Yes, its friggin remedial talk. Maybe America is just THAT stupid.
I wouldn't assume anything in regard to critical thinking and/or sophisticated analysis in regard to this stupifyingly numb populace -which is why I am not so harsh in my criticism of his show. Maybe that is the target audience -the vast nation of IDIOTS that this country has become.

11. To early to tell
I usually only catch last hour of Franken and then Randi. I may be able to hear him as a "best of" over the weekend or something. But last nights replay of Randi was only 2 hours, then they switched to the new morning girl. I need my Randi!!!! :-)

13. I don't know, I haven't listened.
Testing this cool feature is all!

I think having Springer on is a bit insulting. I don't care if he is bright, look at his TV show?! UGH. But, since I haven't listened - I'll forgo judgment.

14. I Think The Show Is Dull And Repetitive....Plus
Jerry has a rather annoying nasal voice quality. I agree with everything he says, but I don't like the show and feel it is very inferior to Unfiltered. I realize he is a "name" but don't know if it's helped ratings or not.

I would ask for higher production values, more interviews, better research backup, more clever humor...

Aside from that it's great... ;)

15. Have not been able to listen. Is it repeated on the weekend? The idea of
milking a subject for all it's worth sounds good to me. A summary of a subject won't do.

the London production was quite entertaining, and its coming to Broadway soon - i'm guessing it'll be a hit, I wonder how Springer himself will react?

19. Sorry, Jerry...
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 04:13 PM by longship
I just can't bring myself to listen to a guy who is single-handedly responsible for the most inane, counter-productive, exploitive program on television, "The Jerry Springer Show". I don't give a damn what his politics are. He's aptly demonstrated that he's only in it for the money. Now, if he gave up his trash TV show for AAR, and apologized to the world for inflicting the years of staged explotation of people's ignorance, that might be a different matter.

Sorry, DU lurkers. I just can't support him.

I voted "Other".

27. Because
From what I have heard his show is boring, repetitive, and he has a whiny voice that doesn't work well on the radio. The show he replaced was FAR superior in my humble opinion and I find it strange I'm one of the few who feels this way. I guess it's a bit what we experience when confronting a Republican. We feel (Rightly so I might ad) that the Republican party is so far out of the mainstream and alien to our thinking that we cannot understand how ANYONE can defend them. I feel that way about Springer. The beautiful thing is I have a off button I can use on Springer.....Would be nice to have an off button for bushco.

23. I will admit I started to listen with prejudice.
I had seen his TV show while going up and down the dials of the TV. (never a full show but I did catch a couple of fights!) I was not sure about him but I do like him now that I have heard him on AA. He comes across much smarter than I ever would have expected.

24. I must admit, I cried Friday
when he told the story about coming to America at age five with his mother and father who were German Jews.

His parents escaped Germany about two weeks before the Jews were rounded up and sent to the ghettos. His grandparents and most of his aunts and uncles died in the camps. They moved to London where Jerry and his sister were born, and they worked and saved money to come to America.

Jerry said that he had a clear memory of all the passengers on the ship coming up and standing in the freezing January cold to watch as they passed the Statue of Liberty. He said there were two thousand people on the ship standing in complete silence. No one spoke a word, they just looked at the statue as they passed.

He said he asked his mother, "What does it mean?" She said to him, in German, "Someday it will mean everything."

I was driving down the highway bawling my eyes out.

25. i'm not sure you folks who don't like him understand the objective...
of the show. he's not trying to give cutting edge information to people like us! he's there to deal with the folks who are unenlightened, and still on the fence. i think it's far overdue to have someone like that on air america. they've been preaching to the choir.

no one who is on the fence is going to tune in to be insulted. i personally think the whole bush cabal should be in prison somewhere, but the folks who support bush are completely unaware of their surroundings. truth only works with these people in small doses. you have to repeat the information many times in different forms to try and chip the cement out of their heads!

jerry springer has made his living manipulating this group. i enjoy listening to him because i understand the group he is trying to influence, and because he is very good at it!

i admit rachel maddow was much more cutting edge than springer is, and there should be a better place for her. the "best of" shows stink. they should make room for thom hartmann, joe conasen and rachel maddow on the weekends...
