2. Hannity reminds me of the fat little Pillsbury boy |
|
that you could poke in the tummy. How anyone can find this guy serious is beyond logic. He's certainly not a journalist and his Fox shock jock act is far from credible.

3. Taken to the FCC over this? |

Not under the Bush administration. They have a set of rules for the GOP and a separate rule for dems. Hannity is clear.

but I still don't quite understand why Hannity and Limbaugh are not restricted by the equal time rule for political campaigning, or the "golden rule" of broadcasting.
I understand they are driven by profits and ratings, but they are also, for all practical purposes, campaign ads. Here in Chicago we do not have alternatives like AAR available.

When the historians look back, this action alone will likely be looked at as the turning point.

Granted, anything that eminates from Hannity's mouth is obscene, but sorry...nothing illegal here...just the usual unethical, and then that's not even the case.
From one who worked talk radio, coaching guests is not unusual, and in many cases, you need to do so to help a guest who isn't familiar with the medium or is freezing up. Nothing worse than someone on a radio show attempting to discuss a topic with lots of hand gestures and not really verbalizing things...a good host will help their guest so the show moves along.
Coaching is a hallmark of hate radio...just as much as putting on only select callers and manufacturing scandals that don't exist. It's a fantasy world...and those who listen, while they think they're so smart, have bought into the game. Even better are some guests who aren't really "authorities", but someone's friend or drinking buddy. I knew a "host" who would have an actor friend come on as a "guest" on a gamut of topics...the guy would range from an authority on global warming to Terri Schaivo's first love and none of the listeners were the wiser. It wasn't until he was caught interviewing someone who had died that he was uncovered...and he's still on the air, and probably pulling the same shit today.
Hopefully Hannity gets embarassed, but that highly unlikely. These goons are unrepentant, and I'll bet he's boasting about this to his buddies. He's sure showing us.

"Just say, 'I'm here to tell what I saw,'" Hannity can be heard instructing his guests. "No matter what the question, 'I'm here to tell you what I saw. I'm here to tell you what I saw.'"
Hannity adds helpfully: "Say, 'I'm not going to be distracted by silliness.' How's that? Does that help you? Look into that camera. Look at me when I'm talking."
On the air, Iyer performs beautifully. "I don't have any opinions or judgments. I was there," she declares
After the segment ends, Hannity gushes off the air to the nurses: "We got the points out. It's hard, this isn't easy. But you did great, both of you. Thank you, guys. Those nurses are powerful, aren't they?"

7. There is a voluntary code of ethics |
|
that real journalists tend to go by, but people like Hannity and Limbaugh do not have such a code. Their only rule is to maximize profits. Their shows are the radio version of The National Enquirer type checkout lane news rags.
