Gay-friendly HGTV - another example |
|
So I'm sitting here posting on DU and have the teevee on in the background. My teevee diet has largely been HGTV or the Food Network. CNNNMSNBCCBSNBCABC have gotten very little air time in this household. Particularly since the last fraud they reported as an election.
Anyway ..... so I'm watching HGTV. I've said a few times before in other threads that they treat gays and single moms and interracial couples, etc., as normal, valued members of society. And in a very matter of fact way. (Fred and Tom just finished the restoration of their brownstone on Elm Street and ....... )
Today they ran a commercial for some sort of gay conference or symposium to be held soon in Philadelphia. I was shocked. Not just programming that's gay friendly ..... they're now taking advertising from gay-centric interests. I am amazed and I laud them for this.
I live between DC and Baltimore. As anyone knows, DC has a fairly substantial gay population. Even in view of that, I have never, ever, not once, heard any sort of advertising for a gay event of any type on any media outlet.
Whoever owns HGTV (I think it is Hearst Communications, but I'm not sure) needs a big thanks from our side.
How refreshing!

1. I like While You Were Out |
|
because they have done several rooms for gay couples, and treated them with respect and like all the other couples. (That's on TLC-don't get HGTV)

Which also owns Food Network, Fine Living, Shop At Home channel, several newspapers (including Cincinnati Post and Rocky Mountain News), several TV stations, and Scripps Howard News Service.

And I am a hetero Mom of two boys. I am so glad to see the programming on HGTV and the Food Network actually embrace the gay community!
