Oprah all but admits she's against the rethugs
On Oprah's "Oprah After the Show" program today, John Stewart was on. In response to an audience question about who (dead or alive) he would most like to interview, he mentioned Jesus and Lincoln. On the subject of Jesus, Oprah indicated that Jesus would be upset if he knew how his name was being used to further the Republican cause. And people in the audience applauded. (Sorry I don't have her exact quote but that was the gist of it.)

Not that I thought she was a rethug-- no way-- but this is the first time I've heard her be political. Wish she would be so more often!!

10. AMEN ,
I am turned off by her fawning over Arnold and Maria. That was when I stopped watching her show. I heard that recently she had Maria and Eunice on the show.Although I was a supporter of JFK, that does not mean that I worship the entire family. Dynasties are highly overrated. I agree that Maria is pitiful.Has to be some reason she is a poster child for bulemia.

12. She has been good friends with Maria since they were both reporters

in Baltimore right after school. She was friends with Maria before Maria even met Arnold.

They are personal friends.

I don't believe there is any way in Hell that Oprah is a Republican or Bush supporter.

Here is what I found at newsmeat.

17. but arnold?
when he became gov, she gave him a platform on her show. Name a democratic gov that she has done that for. Friendship is one thing and politics is another.

I know that bush and wife has been on there, but she has given equal time to Kerry and Teresa I believe. But arnold she throws out the rule book.

4. I know she was heavily supportive of the pro-choice cause,
especially around election time. I remember her with an ad on her website or something, asking for money to support pro-choice candidates.

She's also a big Obama fan. :)

I heard her say she plans to join the Obama for President bandwagon in '12, after her TV contract expires.

11. Oh Goodie, Oprah Uses Her Power For The Good of Country
vs makeovers for everyone....

I can't watch O, what is with all the screaming by those women in the audience? The Oprah worship thing makes me ill. I love that she gives her money to charities, but there are so many important issues she could touch on, but noooooooooooo....if it's not the latest in makeovers, it's the final farewell for Everybody Loves Raymond.

Jon was right, her audiences dress to the nines to attend her show. They must spend a fortune on hair, makeup, clothes, waxing.

7. Hmmm!
Maybe she has seen the light or stopped drinking the kool aid?

I remember that she was a huge supporter of Bush*s back during the 2000 presidential election (it was her support of him that turned me off ever watching her again.) Plus is I remember correctly she was a huge supporter of the gropenator. So I wonder what has caused this turn around in her.

14. It's funny
because Chris Rock once teased her that she helped get Bush in office.

IIRC, Bush appeared on her show and kissed her or something. I don't think she ever necessarily supported him...but probably went way too easy on him.

8. You should have caught her
show before the election..the "Voting Party" one.

I wasn't sure about her either after arnie..but she made some comments that didn't leave much to the imagination that she wanted bush O-U-T!

It's dispicable what's happening in this country as far as the scum who are taking Jesus' name and using it to further their lyin', murdering, thievin' mo.

And what about the suckers who lap it up?

15. All the reasons for the anti-Oprah-ism mirror reasons that could

be used against John Stewart (screaming fans, repubs on TDS...). Why the unfairness? Democrats are, for the most part, CIVIL--we are pro discourse. We WANT to hear both sides. THEY don't.

I think Oprah stays away from politics for the most part because that's not her market. Her show is NOT "Real Time (with Kool-Aid Drinkers)" or Crossfire. Her show is what it's always been, punctuated with current events stories and features.

If you don't like the girly aspect, fine. But not liking her politics when she is pretty fair and balanced is BS.
