Republicans are preparing to use a Reverse Filibuster |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 03:53 PM by ck4829
Sen. Allen R-Va is afraid they don't have the votes to pass Bolton. He's asking for postponement. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3507208&mesg_id=3507256Seems kind of weird that they are now preparing to postpone a vote, even though they are the ones who are threatening Democrats by talking about the Nuclear Option.

3. Seems pretty risky calling for it, |
|
given the fact that nobody can be REALLY sure which way Voinovich will fall. Then again...

we have nothing to lose....
If they aren't going to flip now they never will and it would come out of committee 10-8 anyway....
we have Voinovich on the ropes...force it...force it now dammit!

6. And that's what I thought... |
|
but I'd hate to seem pessimistic. I don't see Voinovich really flipping though, when it comes down to it. I may be wrong.

11. ANYONE who believes Voinovich will actually flip |
|
can I talk to you about a bridge I have for sale?
As a lifetime voter in Ohio, I can tell you he will NEVER buck his party...never. He owes them.

2. The Repukes need more time now to kick |
|
Voinovich back in line.
Dodd's actually saying we should give them that time. Hell, why not take the vote and throw the guy back at this point?
Yeah, this gives us a chance to pick through a lot more dirty laundry, but you know they're going to get to Voinovich if we give them another week.

7. Procedurally, it's the best they can hope for... |
|
... right now, and as others have mentioned, they want time to work on Voinovich.
Even if they manage to get Bolton's nomination to the floor, there's going to be some debate, and everything discussed in the committee (and whatever else comes up in the meantime) will get into debate on the floor. So, there will be a long litany of Bolton's sins and then a vote along party lines, which I hope resonates with the voters in 2006--particularly with women voters--since women seem to be particular past targets of Bolton's abuses.

9. I thought Biden explained that if it were tied 9-9 |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 05:05 PM by cry baby
that the nomination would stay in committee. Then they would eventually take another vote. If that tied, too, then they would keep him in committee and take another vote. If that tied also, then I'm unclear what would happen then. Maybe that he would go to the floor without a recommendation NOT to confirm from the committee.
Someone please correct me if I heard that wrong.
