Firefighters / Police as a way to make people "get it" about Health Care |
|
Because of decades of relentless propaganda, people are often adverse to the idea of single-payer government administered health care.
"The private sector can do it better" is the mantra of the cons.
How about Firefighters? Should we privatize that service? I mean, why continue to squander our tax dollars on a bloated, inefficient government sponsored program like Firefighters when the private sector could do it better?
Or how about Police protection? Shouldn't we privatize that too? Can you imagine if your house was on fire or there was a bugler in your home, calling the police and having them ask, "how do you intend to pay? Do you have security insurance or will you be self-paying?"
So if there is a thief in your house, (a home invasion) the government should provide a taxpayer funded service to send out an officer to respond and take care of the situation...but if there is a bacteria in your body, you need to pay for that yourself or have insurance.
People understand instinctively why it would be a disaster to privatize fire and police protection. Nobody rallies against those "government programs". But what is more important, your belongings or your health?

1. Hmm that woudl truly be a trip to the past |
|
way back when, Firefighting compaies were formed by insurance companies. If your house did not have the propper sign, they did not stop to fight that fire... and in fact at times started fires on competing houses
