Now that Jeffords is retiring, Dean can gracefully leave as chairman

I for one am sick of being kicked in the teeth by this moran. I'm surprised he wasn't at the NRA convention.

"...Former Gov. Howard Dean, now the chair of the Democratic National Committee, had long been rumored as a possible candidate. But Karen Finney, a top aide to Dean, said the former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential hopeful will not run for the Senate because he's committed to his new duties at the DNC...."

6. So anyone who doesn't favor tighter gun control is a "moran"?
Even if they're from a rural state like Vermont? Oh, brother. Like Dean himself has said, what's good for someplace like Vermont may not be what's good for New York City. Gun laws are the sorts of things that should be handled from state to state, and even on a municipal level... Now leave me and my heat alone! :)

so that makes him a moron.Isn't that kind of like bragging about being in the same bed as Tom Delay--Ell Miller--Ted Nugent--ad nauseum? Now, fake Democrat Dean is going after a womans right to choose. Dean was strangely silent about the bankruptcy-credit card bill. Dean is a hoax.

26. Oh really?
John Kerry credited Dean with helping revive the Democratic party. I think Senator Reid is another example--a Senate Majority Leader who has taken on the Reps very strongly--I see these as Dean's influence. Not to mention the great sums of money raised from the grass roots thanks to Dean's formula--everybody is doing that now.

23. Yeah, and guess what - those "morans" at the NRA are doing a good job...
...of getting republicans elected.

Pretty good for a bunch of dumbasses!

I come from a family of NRA members and despite being Union to the core they will not vote for anyone who threatens law-abiding citizens from owning guns. And btw, these people are happy with the current state of gun control - some are even fine with checks at gun shows. But they have limits.

These are Union people that will put guns ahead of their Union jobs. I've yet to figure that one out - but welcome to Middle AMerica.

Dean's attitude is not to support guns or ban abortions. Republicans have done a great job these past 20 years vilifying anyone who shouts "Gun Control" or "Choice". We need to step back a bit and take a look at their rhetoric vs. ours. Poll after poll shows that America is ok with gun control and choice for women and yet for the past 5 years we keep election NRA, Fetus-loving repukes. It's not our platform that we need to modify - it's the package of how we deliver it. Dean has been sucessful and that's an tactic we need to work on with the rest of the party.

88. I don't know that I have ever read a more ignorant comment on this board
Obviously, you don't have a clue as to what Howard Dean believes. I had a long conversation with Governor Dean this past Monday evening at dinner and I can tell you that he is steadfast in his belief of "choice" and he thinks the bankruptcy bill was a disaster.

And, politically speaking you believe that being endorsed by the NRA is a BAD thing then you have no idea as to what politics are all about. There are a hell of a lot of Democrats who belong to the NRA. I certainly don't agree with many of that organizations views but a Democrat getting their endorsement is a very positive thing indeed.

19. First time I've been called a freeper
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 12:27 PM by billbuckhead
This is first time in 4+ years on DU , I've been called freeper. Around 10 times more Americans are killed by guns every year than were killed on 9-11, Brookings Institute statistics used in Congress tell of $100 billions of dollars in damages from guns in America and on top of this we have one of the highest populations in jail of advanced nations. You can defend all that as part of the America way of life, but don't call me a freeper cause I'm against this mess. Don't call me freeper cause I think that 50,000 wounded people every year in America are less important than those killed and wounded in Iraq.20+ other advanced nations don't have this and they don't have these promiscous gun laws. The correllation is obvous to all but those unwilling to see it.

Dean is real cavalier about this and now he's doing the same wishywashything thing on reproductive rights.

55. Hows that shoe working out for you...
now that its on YOUR foot?

How does it feel to be in the position that so many of us pro-gun Democrats have been in? Called freeper because you're critical of a Democrats gun positions. You could not possibly have thought you'd just get a free pass, nor should you get one IMO. It seems some folks who had forgotten, are remembering something extremely important - Gun control is nowhere near as important as government control. Getting back DEMOCRATIC control of this government, or at least a PORTION of it.

Sadly, it appears you are not one of them. I mean...feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

"Around 10 times more Americans are killed by guns every year than were killed on 9-11"

Only if one included suicides, is this true.

"20+ other advanced nations don't have this and they don't have these promiscous gun laws."

Japan has no "promiscous gun laws", yet thier suicide rate is higher than here in the USA. Please explain that, if guns are the problem.

Aproximately a hundred million guns did not kill/wound anyone today, and wont this year, in the USA. Tell me again, how are guns the problem?

This anti-gun idealogical "purity" that you seem to be a believer in...Tell me, what has it GAINED this party?

If we're going to call each names, then lets put the shoe on the right foot.

Americas promiscuous gun laws enable the highest level of murder of advanced nations and no matter how gun nuts twist it they can't can't disprove that.

And I don't particularly give a flying fuck how long he's been here. His point is saying that Dean isn't a real Democrat. I think Dean has more than proven that he's one of the few real ones left in that shambles known as the national party.

If he wants to make a point about gun control, fine, by all means, do so, but don't smear the guy who has been put in charge of picking up the pieces of the very broken democratic party. It's not constructive and serves no purpose other than to flamebait, which I believe is against the rules too.

41. I agree, sort of.
The problem is that the DP is in fact infected with 'leaders' who seem to have positions identical with the republican party on a whole spectrum of issues. I do not count Dr. Dean in that group.

A nightmare scenario is that we finally manage to win a national election again, but in doing so we put in power a bunch of demo-toadies who are basically indistinguishable from the clowns we finally managed to convince people to vote out.

So on the one hand, we have to stop parsing every phrase of every democratic leader and attacking anything that smacks of incorrectness, but on the other hand we need to make sure that the covert agents of the darkside are not running the party.

We need discipline and solidarity.

Gun regulation advocates and reproductive rights advocates have long been bases in the Democratic party and Dean tries to "Sister Souljah" us, feed us to the alligators, sacrifice us, to whore to redneck fundie voters. Remember Dean's incompetence about the Confederate Flag and cultural issues scuttled his campaign. remember Dean isquoting the Bible? Remember that Dean lost the rural states of Iowa and New Hampshire? Oh, and every other rural state but Vermont.

The NRA just had a big hatefest, do suppose we should act like the NRA are allies? Remember Zell Millers NRA keynote speech was the first indication that Zell was off the tracks?

The NRA is nothing less than Bush-DeLay Brownshirts and if we can't tell the truth about them, we got real problems beyond fighting among ourselves.

67. You GOT TOLD
Spokeswoman says Dean won't run for Senate

MONTPELIER, Vt. Howard Dean isn't interested. A spokeswoman says Dean won't be running for the Senate seat that is opening up from Vermont -- now that independent Jim Jeffords won't be running for re-election next year.

A German MG-42 in 7.62 NATO, a spare bolt and parts kit, two barrels, and about 6K rounds of ammo on links. That ought to do it!!

And that is an unfair assessment of what Dean is about.

We don't need hims to gracefully leave as Chairman. We need him to complete his half finished job in the South and in the grassroots.
