10. Some members of the religious right say |
|
that your religion is invalid. So you attack the entire religious establishment? How on Earth is that a bright idea?
Now, 90% of America considers itself religious, and in the last election, 51% of America voted Republican. To proclaim "The religious right is stupid and Republican voters are stupid" is to say, "Hey! You! Yeah, you 51% who didn't vote for us last time--you're stupid! And you, you 20% swing voters who went with us but think the Republicans are okay too--just remember, we think anyone who believes anything the Republicans say are stupid! And you, you 90% of America! We don't particularly hate you, but don't get *too* into your religion, or you'll be stupid too. Oh, and vote for us."

13. no, it is saying hey you that think bush is your savior you |
|
are being stupid.
yup
this is what i am saying. and as they see bush as his savior and are convinced by their ministers liberals are evil, we have any chance of getting their vote.
now i am not talking about the 51% that he really didnt get cause he stole across the nation. i am talking a much smaller number i dont know where, 20's low 30's.
my children in fundie school, the minister on the pulpit every thurs morning, bush was placed there by god. bush is a godly man. kerry is not a christian, kerry is a murderer.
this is what is preached in the churches by the minister, that the sheep follow.
southern baptist church in 2002 called ministers together and told them to preach to their sheep that jesus would know how the voted in 2004. when the time came to meet their maker jesus would pull out this vote to decide if they would make it to heaven
and your problem with me is
i sat in that school for 6 years, and embraced the fundies in love, as did my boys. i dont have a single place to apologize for in my action. i can look in their eyes and ask, am i a good christian. i can trust that they will look in my eyees, and though i follow none of their rule, they will say yes
i know this, because i live this. i dont need you to tell me about these people, they are my people

i think the religious right vote that you are talking is in the 20's maybe low 30's. i think the rest of bush vote wasnt about religion.
i dont think 51% of bush vote was because of religion

Republicans actually do shit all over the religious, just the religious that don't count, the minority religions, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, and more. Why is it that we, the ones who vote Democratic because of its "Big Tent" will countinue to vote Democratic if they rip the tent up and become Christian Only?

Or is the thought, "hey, maybe we should stop calling Christians stupid if we want them to vote for us" now becoming Christian Only?

12. The problem isn't that Democrats do that.... |
|
its that they don't. Its a false perception that is perpetuated by the GOP to win votes, no more or less. To Christians, this should be blasphemy, bearing false witness and all that. The problem, as I see it, is that the perception is perpetuated by some Democrats who blame our commitment to the separation of church and state as anti-religion. It couldn't be further from the truth, but it is there, those same people would compromise that position for votes, and lose even more votes from those of us, people of faith commited to the separation of church and state so ALL people can have freedom of religion. Look at how the Muslim vote shifted from GOP to Democrat, and see what would happen to Democrats if they lose even more votes due to caving into false perceptions.

14. The problem is that while elected Democrats act like |
|
they love the Hell out of Christians, their followers don't--much in the same way the elected Republicans by and large say that they're for greater tolerance and understanding, but Freepers are just as Freepish.
Unless you think that no anti-Christian sentiment exists on DU, in which case we really can't have an argument at all.

17. DU doesn't represent the majority of Democrats... |
|
Most people in this country are Christian, as are Majority members of both Parties, that will not change anytime soon. Does that mean that Democratic Christians are self hating, or just loathe the controlling aspects of the right wing?

However, that doesn't give us leave to paint ourselves with the same broad brush that the Republicans paint us with. Most of the base of the Democratic party is very religious, in all its forms, yet at the same time, they also understand a fact, that the Democratic party is not, and never was, standing against their faith.

19. followers, well i the follower love the hell out of christian being one |
|
myself. if you arent feeding the lie. are democrats now not christian. you have christian at 90% of this nation. that is a large chunk in the democratic party right. so we too have a percentage that are not christian. and all that we are is this small percentage. not. there are plenty of repugs that arent into religion either btw
now, because i speak out about a religion saying i am going to hell. or because i speak out against constitutional law being changed to godly law, i am anti christian?
not a chance dude
i love and embrace my religion. why i do speak out. because for me, it isnt indicitive of christ conscience to keep my mouth shut and perpetuate a lie.

16. they shit on all religion, all not just the other religions |
|
they shit on everyone. they lie, murder, call names, gossip mongers, greed steal from the poor giving to the rich, they so abuse their preaching powers
told a dude why i pulled kids out of school. i have so much respect for those that guide and take care of their flock, but they have the ultimate power. and to me the greatest sin is to preach people away from the path of christs lite, for agenda. there can be no greater crime for me, when a person places their spirituality in the hands of another, to be so misguided. i cannot stomach that.
i dont blame these people i sit with them often, as they are gripped in fear and hate and pain. and they pray and pray and pray some more for god to help them, yet........they are being directed away from the help. i am sad

To many Christians, I'm sure they border on the sacriligious on the offensive scale. Poseurs, by and large, in the GOP leadership.

And even 21% of the white Evangelical vote. So it's not hopeless.
