House approves energy bill -Allows Arctic drilling, protects MTBE makers
This is so fucking depressing; does anyone care, knew it was going to happen but man where are peoples heads? I am going to keep the faith that this will get turned around but in the meantime another glass of wine to soothe the soul.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House approved a broad energy bill Thursday aimed at boosting domestic production, including provisions to allow oil drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge and to shield makers of a gasoline additive from water contamination lawsuits.

Area 1002, a section inside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, is proposed to be used for oil exploration by the Bush administration.
AP

The largely Republican crafted bill was approved 249-183 after two days in which the GOP majority turned back repeated attempts by Democrats to add measures they said would reduce energy use, including a proposal for higher automobile fuel economy requirements.

The bill includes $12 billion in tax breaks and subsidies for energy companies, more than the Bush administration said it wanted. Nevertheless the White House strongly endorsed the measure.

1. disgusting
Have a glass for me, too.

I've almost lost any sense of shock at their overt greed and corruption.

3. WTF!!!
So the Rethugs get to drill in ANWR, give huge tax breaks to big oil and shield gasoline additive makers from lawsuits regarding water contamination...and on top of that blocked all attempts by Dems to add provisions to reduce consumption...

THIS IS F***ING CRIMINAL!!!

4. This will do zero - ZERO - to change anything about our predicament
The United States peaked as an oil province in 1970, and all the tax breaks and special environmental loopholes and financial dick-splints for Big Oil are not going to change that.

In 1973, at the time of the first Oil Shock, we imported about 28% of our oil. In 2004, we imported about 63% of our oil. This is not going to change. In fact, it is going to get worse as we continue to hemorrhage money, either to buy the oil or to wage war to "conquer" the oil.

An impressive feat of Congressional pork, but one that has FUCKALL to do with the challenges we face.

More delusional bullshit from a delusional bullshit Congress targeted at a nation simply crawling with delusional bullshit people.

11. You know; on top of this how in the fuck could anyone care about
their grandchildren or their own children and do this crazy fucking thing?

It seems to me as I care about my nephews and nieces. I want them to have something better than me not worse than me. I want them to experience nature in its best, not totally destroyed and this is what these people are willing to do in the name of money.

12. I Feel The Pain
These people are truly sick in the head and need to be forced out of office ASAP! We need a major march down in DC, one they have never seen before and we stay until they force us to leave... just thinking.

13. Criminal and disgusting to be sure
The good news is that this is only the House version and the Senate apparently is not in line, quote from a Yahoo news article:

"The MTBE protection is backed by House Majority Leader Tom Delay, who has insisted it be in any final legislation. But it faces stiff opposition in the Senate, which has indicated the protection will not be in its version of an energy bill"

AND they are painting it as 'relief for consumers' !!!! when will people wake up.

It seems this is a long way from the desk of the *** so, anything can happen, right?

14. You know I said the same thing. Do you really think it is possible
to get a large march on Washington? There are so many thing to talk about. However, it seems that is all most are really willing to do, other than that nothing.

15. Anything is Possible
I guess it depends on the will of "We the People". This weekend I may be meeting a few folks for the first time. I really feel a collosal march is warranted. It needs to be done before we have another war and I am almost certain there will be another one. I'm not dying for these psychos and refuse to kill other poor people in another country just because of greed.

People are doing plenty, but as you can see from the abuse of powers in the Senate and House, somethings needs to happen before we drop into fascism completely.

16. Hey, thanks. like you said anyhing is possile and it must start
from somewhere. I really think there are enough issues to discuss that there could be a large group. It is just a matter of getting enough good organization at the beginning. I know it could be done.

20. Have a glass of MTBE-contaminated water

While you're filling up your tank with $3/gal gasoline.

Then come back and tell us about the "possible" negatives of this bill.

If the only thing that bothers you is that there might be a little bit less land to hunt on (are you talking about in ANWR? Is hunting even allowed there?), that is just sad. I love to hunt just as much as anyone here, but I'm not willing to sacrifice a clean environment so I can bag a 10-pointer this fall.
