I really need to find out, as we are sick of AOL/TIME-Warner and its alliance with the BushFamilyEvilEmpire.

1. Haven't heard anything about Soros--I thought Rupert M
bought it. I am stuck with it now. So far he hasn't taken my favs off--but if he does--I am going elsewhere.

2. I have DirectTV
and am very happy with it right now, even if Murdoch does own it. If Soros bought it, I would be even happier.

DISH, sorry to say, would have made things very difficult for me.

6. I have bad credit
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 12:11 PM by supernova
through divorce and more recently having been unemployed for 2 years.

Now I have a nice job that I expect to be at for a while and I wanted to reward myself with Sat TV. I'm in the country, so a dish is more practical. DISH wanted a $500 down payment from me. Sorry. It isn't worth that. It's a poor way to treat someone who is trying to do the right thing.

10. $500, sorry
it's 500 dollars they wanted from me, from the outset. I considered discriminatary and very off-putting.

But, like I said, if you have good credit, DISH is probably a good deal.

14. Don't go with Cingular for cell phone service then.
They wanted me to pay a $1000 "deposit" on a $30 phone. I told them where they could put the phone.

19. YIKES!!
Talk about price gouging! That should be criminal.

I'm thinking of getting a pay as you go phone for the same reason. Something like Virgin.

12. I do not have good credit and Dish did not require me to put any type of
downpayment. This was only about 6 months ago. I'm very surprised that they required $500.

13. Are either one of them progressive? I never can remember which man is
which. I do know who Soros is and he said the Democrats will be doing something about the media but didn't say what yet.

16. Buffett and Soros are both progressives. If anyone can outmaneuver Murdoch
it is more likely to be Buffett as every move Soros makes is monitored by the right wing.

15. I think you're right, it was Buffett. Do you know if he bought enough for
a takeover, or should some of us buy the stock to help him out?

22. This is from Feb. Did he buy more?
Filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission show Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway (Research), doubled its holdings in Comcast Corp. (Research), the nation's largest cable operator to 10 million shares, during the fourth quarter, while it dumped its shares in hospital operator HCA (Research) and slashed its holdings in athletic apparel manufacturer Nike (Research).

Soros Fund Management LLC disclosed in its own SEC filing that as of Dec. 31, it owned 2.6 million shares of Time Warner (Research), owner of Time Warner Cable, the nation's No. 2 cable operator, as well as a host of other media properties, including CNN/Money. It had no shares in Time Warner at the end of the third quarter.

Soros's fund also bought 17 million shares of satellite television operator Echostar Communications (Research) during the quarter, adding another company it did not own on its earlier report. And it bought 209,272 shares of media conglomerate News Corp. (Research), which besides owning a number of broadcast and cable networks recently gained satellite television provider DirecTV.
