Bush Strolls with Saudi Prince --PIX-->>>
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 01:33 PM by Stephanie

U.S. President George W. Bush (L) walks hand-in-hand through Texas Bluebonnet wildflowers with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah on his ranch in Crawford, Texas, April 25, 2005, as Vice President Dick Cheney (4th L) and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (R) follow behind with other members of the Saudi entourage. During his meeting with Crown Prince Abdullah, President Bush is expected to praise the kingdom's efforts to fight terrorism and seek its help in countering the economic threat posed by record oil prices. 1. WTF???
What's with the hand-holding?

In all my years of business I have never seen two men hold hands at a meeting, unless they were dating!

Just strange. Maybe they both like it or something? Or maybe it's a weird custome? Did Clinton ever meet with the Saudi's and any hand holding there? Or even Bush41?

Though both of them using their right hands AND walking side by side would be hard, it is interesting that bush offers his left hand, which is not real cool in ME cultures.

Why do you say that I am upset? I didn't write in all caps or bold or anything. Why are you projecting emotions on me that I'm not exhibiting or feeling?

Insinuating that I have some kind of problem with two men holding hands is a thinly veiled attack against somebody you know nothing about, simply because you disagreed with what I posted.

64. Well, I think it was
the "WHAT THE FUCK???" you started the thread out with. And here I thought I was using a mild term, "upset". Your initial post might well be said to imply outrage, not merely upset. If that was in fact not your frame of mind, then you should learn to be a little more conservative with your WTF???'s.

I use WTF to express everything from outrage to amusement...much like I use the word f*ck in a variety of circumstances.

Sorry to offend your conservative usage sensibilities, but I'll be keeping my liberal usage pattern.

66. It's not a matter of "conservative" vs "liberal"
and how very cute of you to imply such an attack on me. No, it's a matter of providing some context as to your intended meaning, especially if you're going to use the same phrase to describe such widely varying attitudes. Your post clearly implied outrage, not amusement, and as a gay male I didn't FUCKING appreciate it.

83. turnabout is fair play
doesn't feel so good when your tactics are used on you does it?

And you introduced the word "conservative" into the mix. I merely turned the phrase back around.

Sorry, but my post did not "clearly" imply outrage. You read that into it for whatever reason. I don't know how to prevent such behavior from strangers who read things into words posted on a screen.

What I do know is how many friends, co-workers, and others that I have battled and sometimes wound up estranged from because of my vocal support of equal rights for all humans (including my numerous gay and lesbian relatives and friends). You have misread me and seem content to continue to do so.

If you want to construe bias or bigotry where none exists you may continue to do so. I can't stop you. But I won't play along with it any further.

are against gays... just to mention a few.

Let's see:

Bush SMIRKS at us & anyone on Nat'l/World TV!
Bush, Co. & Family have huge ties to Saudi's so it's disgraceful to see our Commander and Thief looking so gentle w/the very Prince who's holding us hostage at the gas pumps while Bush and Co make $$ for eons w/gas ties and more.

I could go on... Delay, Frist & Religious right-wing Nutbags against Gays which I repeate is Nutbag mentality.

Geez... if you did that in public, they'd probably shoot your butt if they had it they're way, of which they're working on as in "Justice Sunday."

If you're all for respecting other cultures, would you respect some of the more backwards things that go on in other cultures, particularly with regard to the treatment of women? Should Madeleine Albright worn a veil when, as Secretary of State, she visited these countries?

I freaked out a bit because I saw guys, everyday guys, going around holding hands. All the time. Sometimes just the pinkies.

I soon found out that this is simply what one does when one walks about with a friend.

While I'm sure chimpy know this is just custom, it is odd to see him so "at ease" engaging in such practice. Maybe just cognitive dissonance on my part.

ObDisclaimer: I know the crown prince is Saudi, not Indian. Chimpy is neither.

Rather he, for the ONE TIME IN HIS LIFE, becomes a culturally sensitive diplomat literally holding hands with the enemy.

34. "Saudi Culture and Customs" A reference
"Saudi men often greet each other with kisses, but Saudi men usually just shake hands with foreign men unless they are close friends."

"Men sometimes hold hands with each other in Saudi Arabia (although not with women in public). Holding hands with another man is a sign of friendship, with no sexual connotations."

Personally I think the Crown Prince just takes his hand, whether Chimpy McCokespoon likes it or not. Also, remember how much the bush family is in bed with the Saudis.

I saw it on CNNi today several times. Bush offered his hand to the Saudi and the prince took it. It was definitely Bush's initiative.

82. Bush is holding hands, hoping that the prince won't give it to him in...
...the ass (other words, let the price of oil move above $55 a barrel). But talk is cheap and even tho the prince promises to use his 1 million spare capacity to keep prices down, he doesn't mean it.

He is no fool. Alan Greenspan is holding interest rates down and flooding the world with too many dollars (inflation) so it only makes good business sense for the Saudis to demand more dollars for their oil.

Anyway, homosexuality in Saudi Arabia is punishable by flogging and life in prison or worse. I doubt that the prince is doing anything that would be misconstrued as homo erotic in his homeland. Besides, the prince is ugly. I would think the chimp finds his butt boy Gannon a lot more desirable in that department.

I guess this is what people wanted. Myself however was intrigued at the notion of bio diesel this afternoon after listening to Ed Schultz and a guest he had on who was using it and knows a little bit (actaully a lot) about the whole deal. Sounded like we need to start educating people a bit more about this and get the production up even more, I would switch in a heartbeat if it could be made for my sunfire.

101. What is Mr Rove trying to say with this photo-op?
It's got to be a little risky for Macho Man Frat Boy George to be seen engaging in cheek kissing and hand-holding with a man, at least when seen by an American audience, which for various reasons (which it is not my point here to debate the validity thereof) is uncomfortable with such "foreign" customs.

Mr Rove and Mrs hughes have got to know this tender moment is going to freak out a lot of George's core supporters....

I remember that Jimmy Carter participated in the face-kissing greeting behavior with men from other countries and was ridiculed for it, and that Ronald Reagan refused to, and was applauded.

So why did they allow it? Who exactly is this image aimed at, and what is its message? Is it to bolster Prince Abdullah in his own land, by showing him all cosy with the guy with the nukes and the biggest army in history? If so, Princey Boy must have some pretty big problems for George to pose with him in this manner. Is it to say that George's warm friendship with P.A. will end the gas price gouging, so quit moaning? Is this purely a facade, because gas prices in the US have nothing to do with Saudi production, but with refineries outside that nation, and price gouging by American oil companies -- but they want The Sheeple to think it's production?

Does George W kiss Chirac? (Or does Chirac not even dare to initiate such a greeting?) Interesting if he does not -- when he is obviously extremely comfortable doing so with his buddy P.A.

130. A Close Relationship
If there ever were any doubt, now it can no longer be disputed.

America walks hand-in-hand with Saudi Arabia, and by extension, gives tacit approval to everything the latter does. Even if the Sauds were directly behind Nick Berg's beheading and had regular brunches with Osama Bin Laden, the oil sheiks have nothing to fear.

You see, ONLY Iraq was the real threat, and, as Duelfer concluded, they had no WMD's, which made Saddam an even bigger threat.

Uh... yeah, that works!
